JFK - LHR - NCL Cancellation
We're due to be flying back from the USA on Friday night but just received the dreaded cancellation email.
We were due to be coming back from JFK on Friday night in CW. The alternative they've offered me is coming back from Newark on Saturday morning in WT+ which means an extra night in a hotel and a very late arrival in Newcastle (too late to collect our dog up).
Can I request to be routed on AA or AL on the Friday night in business?
I wouldn't even mind getting off in London or Manchester if it meant getting back at home at around the same time.

You can request AA and EI, but there is no availability at all from JFK in any cabin on Friday night.
From EWR the only thing is J1 on BA184 at 1805.
Nothing in J from PHL, BWI, IAD, or BOS either.
The cost of your extra night (hotel, meal etc.) is something you should claim back and BA should cover it under duty of care. Also depending on the reason for the cancellation, compensation may be payable.

Seems like theres availability on AF via CDG over to NCL on Friday evening in J, or UA via LHR connecting onto BA, or UA via CDG as well. Itll be a case of calling up and escalating until you get the solution. I think theres a process flow they follow to try and not rebook you onto alternative carriers but just take names, details and go with your preferred option and escalate if necessary.
Worst case you document all the comms youve had with them, their rerouting offers and document the availability on other carriers that get you there sooner, then buy those tickets yourself and seek reimbursement from BA, as well as compensation under 261.

But there is some CW space from Toronto if you see this soon. You would need an ETA for Canada if you aren't a USA/Canada citizen.
There have been a number of cancellations that evening (BNA I can see), I suspect due to equipment shortages, so it is going to be difficult. Note you are only allowed one shot at this, you can't accept something and then hop to another service. As demand shakes down then you may find other flights may gain a seat or two in CW.
Strictly speaking they won't offer a rebooking on VS (which has space) since this is more than 24 hours to departure. But you may indeed be able to escalate.

I might ask them to route us CHS - ORD on AA and onto that.

Are these cancellations on transatlantic flights normal and expected further into the summer?
Im flying JFK-LHR a few times this summer, along with LHR-SFO and LHR-IAH. It seems that every couple of days there is at least 1 cancellation on the JFK route. And same for IAH and a little less often on SFO. A bit concerning, especially considering how full some of these cabins already are for later summer.
If Im booked in paid F and theres no F availability on BA/AA/OW, would they book on other airlines like LH, LX, AF etc
All my tickets were booked via AA

Just had my return from JFK on Sunday cancelled. Wife on a separate booking. Ive been offered another flight from JFK she from Newark. All flights fully booked in J and F - Sunday JFK to LHR no wonder. Another regretted trip with BA.

Means I can cancel our Jet Blue flight on a separate itinerary at no extra cost too so we'll actually be better off in the end.

Was a little surprised but it was a no brainer for them as they had no other way of getting us back from LHR and faced a hotel bill. Call handler didn't hesitate when I suggested returning from CHS instead and was extremely helpful.

Thanks for the reply and and for looking into this. The BA 178 is the day flight (so a day lost in New York) and EWR is EWR. Its not what we paid (a lot) for. It feels like BAs reliability is taking a turn for the worse again and I will have to resume avoiding them even if it means connecting rather than non-stop etc.
