Upgrade with avios to CE (U fare bucket)
Hello, long time lurker here needing someone to sense check this for me if you would be so
kind
I booked an avios upgrade today LHR to BER, paid for economy, upgraded to CE with avios at time of booking.
I’m expecting to earn avios and tier points for the economy paid for ticket - but I have been booked into U class which doesn’t earn anything.
Is this something that just sorts itself out later, have I been booked into the wrong fare class, or have I totally misunderstood how it works? - many thanks in advance, whatever the answer.
P.S. A belated thank you for the many hints and tips I’ve picked up from this forum over the years!

You’ll be fine and should get the normal ET tier points and avios in line with your original ticket. U can also be on a pure avios redemption where you get nothing. It can also be for a cash upgrade on a cash ET ticket in which case you’ll get the CE TPs. All 3 appear as U class. In the unlikely event it doesn’t post correctly you should be able to put in a claim after the fact.

Wlecome to the forum and for making your first post. I still remember mine as though it were yesterday!
Yes it sorts itself out post travel. You will earn the underlying avios and tier points based upon your original Euro Traveller booking.

Welcome to FT BranFlake and congratulations for your first post after lurking for a while
Use of U is entirely normal for a POUG on shorthaul which you have done. I tend to fine the avios/TPs already show correctly in MMB once I have done the booking. But even so, I can't recall an instance where I have taken a POUG and it has not posted correctly with the upgraded points.

Because of the mistake I now only need 5 points for silver.
The first flight AMS-LGW was canceled. System automatically rebooked me to another but in booking class Y which would have given me 20 points. I however called to rebook to have some more time to transfer and ticket was then put in fare bucket Q which only gave 5 points.
Frustratingly close to silver now
