Flight cancelled. WTP unavailable. Up or downgrade?

Apologies if an existing thread would have been better but couldn’t find it:

scheduled to fly RTM-LCY / LHR-JFK (WTP) on Thursday. Got an email that both flights were cancelled but it appears that it is just the LHR-JFK flight that is cancelled

I’ve been rebooked to depart from AMS instead of RTM : AMS-LGW-JFK (WTP) with a 30 minute later arrival time.

Not much inclined to depart from AMS and return to RTM.

Looking at LON-NYC flights there is hardly any availability in WTP. Would BA book me in club if I choose a flight that doesn’t have WTP availability? It seems there are even a couple of flights that only have club available / WT and WTP unavailable. Or would BA book me in WT if WTP is not available?

I’ve already called but CS couldn’t help me because it is a BA holiday booking. And the BAH number just says they can’t pick up cause they’re too busy. I’m going to try again tomorrow but would appreciate any advice.

Suspect you’ll need to call the Bremen line tomorrow to discuss BAH exEU. Quite restrictive hours too (option 6 option 1 to avoid hearing it all!)

I can only imagine it’ll be any flight with WTP is your option, otherwise into Y. Ensure you check EWR too

The most likely scenario is that they’d book you in W, then on the day give an upgrade to whoever was approved on the DUT for one. But if it comes to it, SOP is to book down to Y rather than up to J, at least for flight-only, with downgrade reimbursement after the event in line with EU261. BAH may have different policies in line with local legislation (and EU261 doesn’t always apply the same for package holidays).

Then the best option might be to accept the WTP itin offered. However, as that itin is starting from AMS instead of RTM, would I be able to change the return flight to AMS (instead of RTM)? I UUA-ed the JFK-LGW flight, there seems to be award space available on JFK-LHR flights.
So ideally JFK-LHR-AMS instead of JFK-LGW / LCY-RTM ?

That should be fine - call BA with the specific flights you want and hopefully they’ll sort it for you.

An update on this: they weren’t able to rebook me to J as expected. So I accepted the proposed change.

I had to really insist to get them to rebook the return flight from JFK-LGW / LCY-RTM to JFK-LHR-AMS but in the end they were able to do it with the help of a supervisor.

Hopefully the effects of the strike on Monday won’t be to bad!
