BA at Budapest

I read in another thread that there is now fast track at Budapest.

However what is the airport like?

I have no idea if its large or small.

Just trying to gauge whether I need to book assistance.

Also does it board via an air bridge or stairs?

Many thanks!

Hi,

I would say it is a medium size . It is a little bit of a walk through the main shopping area to the BA lounge and the gate.

We used the airbridge to board the BA flights in November.

Regards

I've had bus gates multiple times at BUD so it definitely can happen.

It varies dependent on time of day, but the morning & lunchtime BA flights use stand 326 which has a jetbridge.

A friend flew in the other night and had a jetbidge.

I've never not had a jetbridge for the lunchtime departure.

Good that they have fast track back again now. They didn't allow us to use it in August as apparently BA were not paying them for it. Also, BUD had the longest wait for bag drop I have ever been in (was in CE so was even using the premium line). The airport has a decent amount of walk and though it may have changed since, not only were we bussed for boarding but the aircraft was parked so far away from the terminal that you might have thought the pilot had made the classic mistake of flying to Bucharest instead.

Defo jet bridge on my last 4 occasions. Loads of American tourists from Danube tours in group 2. “Please board if you are group 1-3” means 210 people rushing to the front! Shambles!

They stopped that recently and had distinct group 1 since I want to say the turn of the year. It was a mad scrum before that for ages.

We departed lunchtime - Air Bridge and Lounge

We departed around 2pm from memory last March. Air Bridge and Lounge had a lift/escalator.

but things can change so ask for assistance if doubtful, you know I am going to do this when I fly next time. Gout flares are not great for travel!

On the pills and off the booze for a bit!

enjoy BUD and do the old Town Pest side, definitely worth it and walkable downhill back to the River! Jewish area on BUDA side nr River fascinating also

cheers

FastTrack is back - and prints on the Boarding Passes.
As other have said 10 min walk through immigration to get to lounge and gate.
Used a couple of gates when I have left here but all close to lounge.
Not a bad airport, all the staff speak English in my experience
Lounge nothing to write home about - snacks, drinks, and very few sockets.

Think that's the wrong way round? The Old Town with the Royal Palace, Fisherman's Bastion, St Matthias Church et al is the Buda side, West of the Danube and up the hill. The Parliament building, Heroes Square and the Jewish Quarter (Josefvaros) are in Pest which is the flatter Eastern side of the river

Yes, BA at BUD has improved recently with jetbridge and fast track (though the ordinary security queue moves fairly swiftly) and Group 1 boarding. The Celebi lounge is still mediocre but even that has improved, with the ubiquitous Hungaria Exra Dry sparkling wine in small bottles which is useful for anyone trying to create a DIY Club Europe experience 'down the back'
