HKT-DOH-LHR cancellation and reschedule- airline not responding

Hi all, I have received numerous comms from BA over the last couple of weeks regarding my flight (code share with Qatar) from Phuket to London via Doha (end of April). The alternative flight we were booked on is not viable for us (leaving early in the morning instead of nighttime, effectively cutting one day of holiday, plus we prefer long haul flights to be overnight).

I found a couple of alternatives, eg spending a night in Bangkok and then flying BKK-DOH-LHR, or flying HKT-SIN-LHR.

I have been unable to get hold of anyone at the BA call centre for the last few days (the automated message says they’re dealing with too many calls…. And then hangs up:/ )

The only thing i’m able to self serve via the website is to accept the suggested alternative flight which i dont want to do.

At a loss as to how to handle this if BA don’t answer?? I bet it happens a lot - any advice? (I noticed a similar thread on the forum, but it seems to be destination specific and in the further future, so raising my issue here)

(also, interestingly, i can still see the original flight listed on the website…)

Have you tried using the online chat? They are usually helpful and able to resolve things like this, and it is easier than waiting on the phone. It starts off as an automated chat bot, but if it doesn’t give you the option, just type in speak to live agent.

They won't be able to book on those options as they'd involve legs on other airlines flights

You can find an alternative HKT-DOH-LHR flight and suggest that

Yes, quite a lot of QR shuffling happening. One of the rare times when it’s better booking direct on QR. A colleague had a return HKT-DOH-AMS change with an undesirable 8.40hrs layover in DOH. Went on live chat, and easily had a switch to HKT-DOH-LHR with a 90 min layover, a hugely successful result!

Im having the most frustrating time trying to change this booking to an acceptable time.

The only HKT-DOH-LON alternative is now full.
BA is not willing to change to a flight with a connection in Singapore (or anywhere else).

It’s basically a take it or leave it situation (or cancel the entire booking, including the outbound flight), which is crazy.

Annoyingly, the flight which is full leaves only 20 min before our initial flight was supposed to leave. Looks like we were bumped off that flight when it was rescheduled.

I suppose i don’t really have a leg to stand on here, other than paying a change fee and going through Singapore. It does feel massively unfair though. Any ideas on what else is possible more than welcome.

Also, another odd thing is, when i randomly checked Phuket to Dubai availability (which actually sends you HKT-DOH-LGW-DXB) can see there is availability for flights BA7012 and BA6389, ie the HKT-DOH and DOH-LGW (the same ones which are showing full when i try to rebook!). Any idea why that would be?

Leave it as it is for now and wait for availability to reappear; then contact BA for rebooking. There is plenty of time until late April.

BA is under no obligation to rebook you via BKK or SIN with other carriers.
