This has just appeared in the offers section on my AMEX app for my UK BAPP card.

Ive got a BA holiday balance to pay. Wondering if doing it in 500 instalments over the next month would trigger this. Cant see why not at a glance.

the T&cs state it is for flights departing from the UK only. If you look at Amex statements; ticket information is included on there so it might not work. No harm in trying though.

There was an offer recently where they even specified that only certain cabins and fare classes would be eligible for the spend, so Amex are getting full access to your itinerary data for the transaction.

Similarly they had a Heathrow Express offer that was a cashback on purchases in the Paddington to LHR direction only, and not the reverse LHR to Paddington.

A huge eye-opener for me in the amount of data that is shared with them for each transaction!

Exactly this. If you look back on your Amex Statements (In the App) everything about your ticket is there: PNR, ticket number, class, destination and dates. So its obvious BA know who is honouring the offer and who is trying to get by!

all in all this current offer is a 2% avios cashback not overly appealing.

Lovely offer. Save 7 quid on a 500 booking. I'll be all over that trying to game it. Not.

It's incomprehensible really. The only possible use of this is to shift BA spend that was going to happen anyway over to BAPP if it wasn't there to start with, and it's a small increment anyway on top of normal earning for BA transactions. I can't see what it incentivises at all.

Just get the impression that BA has twigged that moving to an Avios revenue model is going to screw a lot of people over and is trying to find ways to pump Avios out via credit card spend to cushion the blow.

AMEX offers benefits to merchants who comply with their "enhanced data" program. I saw the programmers guide with over 300 fields of data regarding purchases that can be sent to AMEX! IE for grocers and convenience stores, "Amount of total used to purchase tobacco".

Ive always wondered if the "for the first 50,000 cardmembers to save the offer" means I can save it now, be one of the 50,000 but then dont use the offer for a few weeks and get the offer because I saved it early, or if I save it now, dont use it for a few weeks, in which time 50k people have redeemed said offer and I lose out.

I have never seen an AMEX offer, even limited ones like this, rescinded (other than expiration) after it's added to your account.

Agreed, even ones where I think, I must be outside the number quoted. Anyway I'll try the 5x500 to a BAH in a months time when I have one due, nothing to really lose.

But a BA holiday would be a UK departure.

I have 2 holidays that need payments. One is from DUB so I'll try that but won't expect anything. I do have a JER departure too and I fully expect that to earn the bonus points.

Wow! 1000 points

If you are a positive thinker someone could say better than nothing

As much as our US forum mates complain, at least with a US airline branded card you get some benefits out of them...

A 500 spend would normally net 1500 avios, so this brings it up to 2500. Maybe worth it where you can spend in 500 chunks e.g BA holidays, probably not where you have to pay in full for a 1000 ticket.

My experience with this offer may be useful for others.

I paid a 500 on a UK originating holiday last week (the minimum was 250 but chose to pay 500 with the hope of receiving the extra 1000) but I have not been credited.

On Sunday I made a transaction to the value for new flights at a cost of circa 600. But when the payments landed, they came in at circa 300 x 2 (as there was 2 pax). So I was pleasantly surprised when this credited today.

So my initial assumptions are that holidays won't trigger the bonus but one off payments of 500+ will, even if they land as multiple smaller amounts.

I spent 250 with Avis and got 3,000 TPs via Amex recently so this seems a bit, meh....
