Thursday 14 December 2023

Today's short notice cancellations from LHR:
BA117 JFK
BA185 EWR
BA894 KEF

So 320 BA scheduled departures from LHR today.

And there were some late, late cancels on Wednesday
BA738 GVA = APRN
BA736 GVA = APRN (amd LX was doing the same so I presume there's a weather issue over there)
BA269 LAX = TECY - more details above.

ATC report from this morning:

Landing RWY: 27L
Airborne holding (mins): 15
Departure RWY: 27R
TSAT delay average (mins): 0

Network: Low delays for Europe, LIPZ in fog and EHAM has capacity regulations in place, all less than 20 minutes delay

Weather: Low risk VIS2 1300-1800, Medium-High risk VIS2 and Medium-Low risk LVP's between 1800-midnight, expect a regulation but times to be confirmed.

The runway at GVA was closed yesterday afternoon after what was described as a Ďbusiness jetí slithered off into the snow. The two earlier flights to Geneva were diverted to Lyon before eventually returning to Heathrow.

on a side note, we have a foster kiddo on a separate booking reference and on the rebook with AA, they put them on a completely different flight which isn't going to work . Trying to call now

Edit, having to cancel and rebook with another carrier :/

BA 117 TECY
BA 185 DAMN - possibly linked to hard landing checks on G-VIIW
BA 894 INDN

GVA was shut due to. Nexus 400 having a bit of an excursion whilst crossing the runway.

Down as DAMN, not entirely sure what the damage or cause is. Likely worth raising via CEDR as rejection fromBA will no doubt occur.

BA8484

Does anyone know why BA8484 PMI to LCY been cancelled (today) on 15 December? Iíve been offered an alternative (to LGW) more than 24 hours later. If I accept the alternative am I entitled to claim under EU261 and how much please? What about the cost of an extra night in my hotel? Thanks

Welcome to FT.

Most important information here:

Disruption Assistance thread - signposts and what you need to know

In a nutshell, hotel costs yes (try to stay at around £200), reasonable food expenses, transportation to the airport; laundry service if you run out of clothing, etc.

Potentially also EU261 but someone with insight on canx reason will let you know more.

Only other info to add is that the reason for the cancellation is due to flight crew shortages. Code FCRY which means you are entitled to flight cancellation compensation in addition to duty of care elements.

Friday 15 December 2023

Some cancellations have crept in this morning, a few are somewhat surprising (e.g. the JFK service). I'm going to guess crew shortages. This is what I have so far:

BA219 DEN = FCRY - more details above
BA007 HND
BA476 BCN
BA1314 ABZ
BA868 BUD
BA193 DFW
BA113 JFK
BA289 PHX

Which leaves us with 324 BA departures from LHR today.

Yesterday Thursday there was an extra cancellation.at the gate I think, or possibly after boarding:

BA227 ATL

I've just landed in LHR and I can see it's working well at least for some of us, straight to gate 1, airbridge ready and 20 minutes early, nothing in the hold. And there's no Regulation for landing at the moment. The ATC report is below, no weather information though, but it's a boring cloudy day with only a little SW wind, 5 mph, and medium 4 to 10 km visibility.

Landing RWY: 27L
Airborne holding (mins): 6
Departure RWY: 27R
TSAT delay average (mins): 0

EGLLTC Reg: 43/60 0600-1100z
Network: Low CTOT delays for LFPG, EHAM, LPPT and ELLX airfields as well as Karlsruhe, Langen and Munchen ACCs.

Weather: Nil sig weather forecast

Welcome to FT. Let'a play the BA flight number bingo It's really not very helpful when you want answers to make people search for the flight. Do we need to gibe you three guesses where the flight was going to?

Gatwick to Tampa, for those that haven't memorised all the flight numbers.
