Flying BA Codeshare with QR - DOH/BKK

Hello FTers,
Long-time no-post. After 7 years in the domestic employment wilderness. I have the privilege of taking a business trip to BKK next month and, as BA are yet to recommence the route; have opted for QR to attain the Miles and TPs. This is my first LH with work for some time so needing to reacquaint with the hacks.
Will be flying Business which means 777 LHR-DOH (with Qsuites by looks of Seat-Guru), A380 DOH-BKK and return and BA777 Metal DOH-LGW on the inbound. Looks like 3 x class (seat 3K).
I've YouTubed a bit to see what I'm in for seat and Lounge wise and its looking good. Appreciate any regular globe-trampers advice or hacks when flying QR out of T4 as well as Lounge advice for T4/DOH/BKK.
Its just the little things that make a difference, and I naturally want to make it count.

Welcome any advice.
Thank You

Very little to add about T4/DOH - just go with the flow (Qatar Business lounge in Heathrow, Al Mourjan in Doha).

What time are you leaving from Bangkok, as that affects the lounge availability?

Just did this route, albeit BA A380 on the LHR-DOH leg, QR lounge in BKK is open four hours before departure and is very pleasant. Transfer in Doha very easy, showers were all busy in DOH but after asking a few different lounge staff was directed to the quiet room which had plenty of available showers.

QR is a great way to fly, you’ll have a great time.

Thanks. Departing 20:25 local time ex-BKK

Many thanks for the steer. Will probably need a shower and have a 4H layover on the outbound. I'm also planning to take carry-on only, esp with a tight transfer on the return leg.

For the showers, once you get into the lounge head left to the deli area all the way at the end of the lounge (behind doors). The showers are just behind the deli.

Great advice - the showers at the "deli end" are always less busy than the showers midway along nearer the entrance it seems. Two separate visits this year and on both occasions there was a queue at the first shower area and no one at the deli end

At BKK, there Qatar Premium lounge (I think its called?) is now open, which was lovely when I visited - not that big, but very nice looking, decent food and drink and staff very attentive.

On my recent BKK trip on QR I managed to cover off Qsuites on two legs (wonderful), A380 J on one leg (also nice albeit less private) and their old 777 2-3-2 (or was it 2-2-2?) layout on 1 leg - which was rubbish frankly but hey, you can't have it all (particularly on the seat lottery that is Qatar Airways)

There is now a new Al Mourjan lounge at the North Node which is much quieter and should have good shower availability.

As Shwann says there lots been happening at DOH, with the new north node, the garden there and duplicate lounges. If you've a tight transfer, download the interactive 'HIA Qatar' App and use the map to orientate yourself, noting that it shows four levels including the (many) bus gates at 'G' as well as the jetties at level 1.

I had the misfortune of using the Al Mourjan lounge earlier this month around midnight Doha time and you couldn’t get a shower in either section of the lounge. They have woefully poor shower provision for the volume of customers they get, and the staff running them were utterly clueless and incompetent. The restaurant was also completely full with a large queue. We barely found anywhere to sit in the entire lounge because they’ve decided to take up half the floor space with a pointless water feature. I would recommend using the new North lounge, if that’s open.

The only thing you’ve done wrong so far is using SeatGuru - it was trash before and is now officially unsupported.

Use aerolopa.com.

Well, theres a watch-out. I tend to err on the positive with these things (rose-tinted glasses). Appreciate the nod on the North Lounge

Have a great trip- i'm travelling this route in February. I have a 4 hour layover in Doha and am contemplating going for a quick swim in the health centre complex!

Quick post-trip summary

Hi FTers,

Just a short note to say the trip went extremely well with OT departure on Sat 10th Dec via DOH on the outbound in Qsuites. LHR QR Lounge in T4 was simply sublime.

Hamad Airport for 3 x hours was also a dream. I managed to get some sleep in plus a shower. the Al Mourjan lounge which is huge.

The A380 Business Class, although not Qsuites was quite decent with the added bonus of the bar area.

Hotel in BKK was the Carlton where I resided for the meetings with Global colleagues. I would recommend this Hotel without hesitation.

Return equally smooth with the lounge in BKK offering a-la-carte before boarding. Spent most of it in the Business area doing my notes (and earning my keep!). Unfortunately no time for a lounge visit on the back-leg due to tight connection but managed to walk through the tree-area which was very pleasant. BA 777 in Club World back to LGW (BA2032) on Frid 16th Dec, with an on-time arrival into the cold.

Can certainly say that BA could learn a thing or two regarding the soft product service on QR. The attention to detail and Cabin Crew left me wanting more. Despite an early hours departure on the return leg with BA, the service seemed very rushed. Overall, no real complaints though and I kind of still like the old Club World seat when window side (I was in 3K on G-VIIP), which offers good privacy and ample leg/foot space to move around.

In summary, a great trip with the added bonus of TPs which has pushed me into the Silver bracket where I havent been for a few years now. Roll-on the next trip!

I will share some photos on this thread for those that are interested.
