Not a chance the CMA would allow BA to buy EZY.

This has arisen from speculative comments made on another forum. In my opinion unlikely. IAG needs to get its own house in order and pay down debt. There is also the continuing saga of the
Air Europa on/off purchase.
In my opinion Easyjet is best left as a competitor as far as the consumer is concerned.

If this is even true, which I doubt, the competition people would put the kibosh on it in 5 minutes flat.

Tbf it wasnt just speculative comments on FlyerTalk that instigated this, it was reported by The Times.

We are a platform for consolidation. We will only do what makes sense but we see there are opportunities to be stronger. We are a group that wants to consolidate the industry.

Generic comments and the blanks have been filled in by speculation. TAP Portugal is however being privatised and so will be up for sale.

I would think that TAP would be of greater interest to the LH group, even if only to stop IAG getting it.

I believe that Air France-KLM also expressed interest in TAP, and the Italian government has reopened talks with LH and co about ITA.

Perhaps IAG want to bring in Easyjet standards as a fast way to improve FIRST ?

This does seem to be covered on lots of outlets, particularly investment based ones. Especially since the positive IAG financials and the poor easyJet share price.

I do however feel the Competition authorities would be less then impressed.

If however a deal were to be struck it could be quite interesting.

There would most likely be a forced sale of some parts of the business to satisfy Competition concerns, such as the amount of Gatwick slots. However much of the business is not London based and so may not be a problem, while IAG maybe interested would BA?
Long term, would the easyJet name remain given the fees payable to the EasyGroup. Or would this be the start of BA Express (orange speedmarque anyone?) Or some hyper-steroid boost to BA Euroflyer or Vueling UK?
EZY also has many non UK based opps, these could be folded into Vueling / other IAG group companies / sold.

But in my view any move would be instigated by others with BA / IAG bidding only to protect UK share and/or preventing another party such as Wizz gaining further UK traction.
