Options to upgrade WTP ticket booked in E fare bucket

Hello! Booked a WTP ticket in a E fare bucket and didn't realise that it wasn't possible to upgrade via Avios into J (has this always been the case?). Are you still able to upgrade a E fare bucket ticket into J via a AUP if available?

All WTP fares are eligible for upgrade with Avios to CW. There's probably no Avios availability in CW for your flight.

Fare class E in WTP can be upgraded via Avios to Club (as long as there are Avios seats in Club). Who is telling you that you can't upgrade?

...also, I assume you mean you want to upgrade using Avios (UUA) rather than AUP - which is an airport upgrade on the day of travel? Terminology is key around these parts

I've upgraded T bucket fares before, so certainly shouldn't be a problem with an E...

It is and always has been possible to upgrade an E class fare to Club World, if a reward seat in the relevant bucket (from memory, U) is available.

If I click "Upgrade via Avios" in MMB, it tells me "This booking cannot be upgraded due to the fare class of this ticket". There is Avios availability on the flight in J as I had checked before trying to upgrade. I'm guessing this could be BA IT at play, so will give the Gold Line a call.

Wasn't confusing AUP with UUA - I was instead believing the error message so wanted to check a E fare bucket could be upgraded via AUP if a UUA wasn't possible.

99.9% of the time you will need to call up to successfully action a WTP-J upgrade using avios

Have you made any changes to your booking in the past?
