Considering how close they're getting into bed together, perhaps an Avios tier bonus should be in order (25% extra for Bronze, 50% extra for Silver and 100% extra for Gold) like the schemes for AA, IB and JL, or at least like AY (10% extra for Bronze, 15% extra for Silver and 25% extra for Gold).

... we live in hope?

BA 380 to DOH for World Cup would be my bet, maybe covering a QR rotation to free up an aircraft for QR to operate elsewhere, would be my guess.

QR has quite many destinations on AY flights on both domestic and European routes. If you look at HEL departure board today you’ll see WAW, GOT, ARN, ZRH, TLL, RIX, KUO, VAA, IVL, KTT, VIE, TAY. Not a huge number though.

QR freeing up planes by letting BA have exclusive use of the LHR - DOH route?

BA won't fly to DOH 6/7 times a day, plus won't have the planes to do so. Plus it will be on of QR's flagship routes so they won't give that up to BA.

I hope the Penang intern is still working at Waterside....

Think I'd be more worried about ending up on a scrummy old QR A330

True that, though they wouldn’t dare in a million year to send the dirty old A330s to LHR it’s usually BKK or other “secondary” destinations plus regional routes. Although given the fact they’re literally running out of planes…who knows.

on the flip side DOH is reverting to Gatwick soon so at least it will be on of the Gatwick based “refurbished” BA 777 CWs with newer IFEs

don’t bet on LGW.
380 for the World Cup from LHR and covering a QR rotation. Akbar calling in a favour after all the wet-leases.

Indeed, plus QR have invested significantly in premium check-in and their lounges in T4, and don't forget the role of cargo.
