I would think that if they needed two seats together, it’s a matter of having two people who may very well have paid to be together, but non-functioning entertainment is, well, not entertaining them. By moving OP into F and opening up two seats together with working entertainment… all sorted.

Many years ago, on the way back from somewhere East to London, in the days when they made several stops in the Middle East to pick up some more passengers, I was sitting in what passed as business class in those days. I was sitting next to a man, who was travelling on business where his seat was obviously paid for by the company. He had a wife of Far East origin, who was seated in coach. She came up to speak with him several times. Just before one of the Middle East stops the flight attendant came to our seats and said that they were picking up additional passengers at the next stop and needed our seats and would we both be happy to move to First Class. Of course we would! I realized after that that 'First Class is the only way to fly' -which I have never done since! However, the funny part is that the fellow next to me's wife wanted to come up to First Class and speak to her husband, but there was no way that the crew were going to allow that!

I was on an AONEX with several BA F sectors and my husband decided to join me long after Id booked. Managed to book him a last minute DONEX.
2 Pursers saw us board together then separate. On one sector the Purser escorted him up to F stating his seat had been changed prior to take off and on the second sector he was moved once we levelled out.
Neither of us asked and it was completely unexpected. Were polite, always say please and thank you and tend to engage with the crew.

Ive had two once-onboard UGs to F over the years:
1. A CC member on LHR-ICN who recognised me from a flight which had a huge delay just a couple of weeks before - Id sat in my J seat and just got settled when he turned up, exclaimed loudly about his apologies for the issue with my seat and moved me to F (there was no issue with my seat but he explained how hed remembered me from the previous flight when hed had grief from some passengers but not from me)
2. A move to F from UD CW after I sat on a disruptive passenger to try to stop him assaulting the crew. (Once the passenger had been handcuffed to his seat)
At least I understood why the UGs happened 😊

I love the way some people on this board can be so rude and dismissive, especially towards the high number of people who *aren't* frequent flyers who *don't* fully understand the process - it's borderline insulting.

As you're replying to me I'm going to assume you're referring to me? I didn't think I was rude at all. Dismissive? Yes, ok I'll accept that. I did dismiss your agitation that someone else received something for free.

Well it turned out to be a not unusual apparently benign mix of sleeping pills and not very much alcohol. It was a few hours into an HKG-LHR on a 747.
Pax not drunk but turned into an unpredictable mess once he popped the pills - swung at both CC on the upper deck in the exit area - connected with one of the CC on the face before he swung again, overbalanced and faceplanted with a bang.
I was in 62K and so it was all happening right in front of me. I completely forgot I was on an aircraft and just jumped up and sat on him so the crew could call for help from downstairs - he didn't actually struggle much at this point. TBH I didn't really think at the time then got a bit shaky once he had been subdued.
I was asked by the (then) CSD if I would like to move seats and ended up in 5A - with the F pax asking me what the loud bang was from upstairs! Another UD Pax ended up in 5K who had also apparently been assaulted by the passenger. We were interviewed by the police on landing and the passenger was taken away. The icing on the cake was a long queue at immigration and we of course missed early disembarkation from F - me and 5K were the last passengers off in the end!

The company is my company, so effectively I paid for that seat. But, hey ho, brush it off casually as you have done. It only cost me about 100,000 Avios.

Sharing a recent story on BA 49 (LHR-SEA) operated on a 789. I was seated in Club World in the old school yin yang J class in 13A, the seat next to me was empty. Right after lunch was served (maybe an hour to hour and half into the flight) I reclined my seat and was watching a movie when two FAs appeared above me and told me that they were "collecting me" to move me to First. Apparently they needed my seat (and the one next to it) to move some J passengers around since their IFE weren't operational. They collected my things and sent me up to F for the next 8-ish hours. I was thankful for the upgrade, but a bit confused (there were more then 2 seats available in F, why not just upgrade them?) I am a OWE and was on a paid J BA ticket.
My husband and I tried to link our PNR's but were not able, either on check in or via customer service. We were moved 3 out of 4 legs on this trip - any suggestions?

Its happened to me on a couple of airlines, including BA. Problems with IFE / broken, semi-broken seats / next to loud and obnoxious pax etc. I am very much an aisle seat person and would tend to politely decline a move to a middle seat. A number of times when Ive asked is it an aisle seat Ive been met with a smile and Im sure Sir will find the seat very acceptable. Ive taken the hint on every occasion 🙂.
On the subject of politeness, raised by an FTer up thread, and in support of Can I help you, I have no idea why people arent polite from the very start:
1. Why wouldnt you chose to go through life being polite and kind to people?
2. Never p**s-off the people serving/looking after you!

Not in BA, but being nice to a Gate agent and volunteering to get bumped on a very busy flight out of Miami helped me get an F seat on MIA-JFK on AA a few months ago. I was confused as to how a "fully booked" flight had an empty seat in F, but didnt worry about it much.
