Question BA2775 - Cancelled Monday 19/09; entitled EC261?

Hi All

We are due to travel this Monday next and BA just sent an email cancelling the flight now. Is anyone able to check the reason for cancelling this close to travel date and will we be entitled compensation? We are connecting to the Middle East so will have to change the date of the flights to find availability and incur additional hotel costs.

Thanks

This will likely be due to ATC restrictions for the funeral of the late Queen. There will be no entitlement to compensation but duty of care still stands.

You may address your request for compensation to:

His Majesty The King
Buckingham Palace
London
SW1A 1AA

Probably best to wait until after his mother's funeral though.

Well the middle flight of a series of connections is now canceled. LCA LHR ARN LAX, all one ticket, BA/AY booked on AA. The LHR-ARN flight is canceled, which means I won’t make the ARN-LAX. Gold line won’t answer; BA.com won’t work; AA.com starts to let me change flights but then has a system error each time. Should I just take the LCA-LHR flight and count on BA to help find some other alternative to LAX?

Edit; it’s in Club/business

I’m flying back from SOF on Monday and I would actually like them to cancel the flight as I don’t really want to go now (outbound on Saturday).

I made my booking some time ago and have already paid to change the return to accommodate other activity but it’s still inconvenient. If BA cancel I’ll get the flight cost back and insurance will cough up for hotel and other expenses already committed. Elsewise I will simply enjoy a short break in Sofia!

In a word No. This has been imposed on them and is absolutely not of their making. I would imagine that your travel insurance should take care of this.

Both AA and BA have direct flights to LAX from LHR that are still operating on Monday. I would try to get switched to one of those. If you booked it on AA then call AA. They will put you in a call queue and call you back.

You and me both! Arrival is 15:50 so there's still hope. Would love to rebook from CFU and save the positioning flight to SOF. If it does end up operating though, see you on the flight.

Aren't we jumping ahead a little here? While this absolutely could be due to ATC restrictions, it wouldn't be the first flight ever cancelled for operational reasons either, in which case compensation would be payable...
Expertflyer only has data up to Sunday, so would need to check the reason tomorrow.

Thanks, hence asking if people knew the reason, if linked to the funeral it is understandable

And just to be pedantic none of this due to ATC restrictions. The airport have instigated their HADACAB process which forces airlines to reduce their schedules. ATC have no ability to force airlines to cancel flights.

Not pedantic, always good to know these things. Every day is a school day here.
