BA cancelled return

So BA canceled my daughters return ticket in December from ATL to LHR. Only option they offer is a flight two days later. This ruins our Xmas as she was then transferring from LHR to GIB on the same day and itinerary.

Am I now entitled to a cash refund for this return leg as other airlines have a close itinary that works. ATL-AMS-AGP.

If you purchased the ticket like ATL-LHR-AGP in one ticket then you def can ask a re-route. BA does prefer other Oneworld partner to pick up these flights so best bet is AA, but not sure if they allow in with KLM. Legally they should offer if nothing via LHR can work on that day. However if you bought a separate ticket from LHR-AGP from the ATL-LHR then BA will not allow you to change both flights. I would suggest to search for an alternative flight from ATL-LHR could be via other US cities or perhaps via DUB.
If you share a bit more info we can help you more on the exact timing and routing.

The auto-rebooking may have suggested "we've put you on this flight 2 days later" but you don't have to accept the first recommendation, especially if it's unsuitable. The Disruption/Recovery screen in MMB should allow you to choose from a wide range of routes/dates/times as long as you hit the "no, I don't want to accept the automatic suggestion" buttons. Doing a dummy booking for ATL-GIB does show there's a few days in the run-up to Xmas with no BA operated direct ATL-LHR service, but you'll be able to rebook on to AA operated domestic (and transatlantic) services to complete the journey via MIA, CLT, PHL, ORD or JFK.

If MMB isn't being cooperative then you can call up and ask to be put on "these specific flights", just do a dummy search on ba.com for one-way ATL-GIB on the date you want to travel and have the flight numbers to hand.

Thanks for responses. To be clear initial booking was GIB-LHR-ATL round trip one intinery. None of the BA offered return leg options after cancellation are acceptable without multiple hops which is too much and way to risky in holiday period. Are BA legally required to either give me a credit or money back? I would rather now just book with Delta ATL- KMS - AGP or ATL-MAD and have her take the train down.

yes, legally BA either responsible to take you wherever you purchased the ticket or a full refund.
so if the Delta flights are cheaper or similar than you paid for BA, I agree just to get a refund and buy a new ticket. However if the Delta option is super expensive because of Christmas than I would fight with BA to take me whenever and wherever is possible/suitable.

Thanks for this. Delta has actually got cheaper, last month when I bought BA ticket it was close to half. Now its a wash pretty much. We also hate landing at GIB so AGP always preferred Hopefully they will reinstate the JFK - AGP flight at some stage.

I will get refund I think.
