When you finally hit gold... what then?
Hi all
Thanks for all the knowledge on here!
So, just a small question. What do you do when you hit gold, but your tier point renewal date is like 3 months away? Getting more tier points until you renew is a waste then, isnt it?
Thanks
John

Theres always GGL, though with 3 months to go perhaps not likely. The avios you earn still have value. Are you likely to fly enough in 3 months to earn meaningful status with another alliance?

Some folks may have built a good stash of TPs and be "flying" towards Gold for Life

Well from the perspective of improving your status, yes unless you want to aim to get to GGL in 3 months. But as it has taken you 9 months to get to Gold then that is unlikely. However, there will be people on here who no doubt have worked out how to get to GGL, a Concorde room card, 10 M avios and lifetime Premier Card with just one flight Lhr-Man. But I am not that man....

The main perk is had at T5 where you can use the first wing and go straight into the first lounge, without having to mix with the hoi polloi.
You can get row 1 on most bookings, if not beaten to it by another GCH.

Being able to use FW feels a bit special, but other than that i did not noticeva lot of difference in thd flying experience. Sometime the senior cabin crew member will come and say hello.

The general idea is you come on here to laud it over everyone else how wonderful and privileged it is to be gold and how life wouldn't be worthwhile without said benefits. At the same time despairing that it isn't what it used to be and the airline has sunk to an all time low.

If BA/OW is the obvious choice when flying from where you're based, I'd suggest just enjoying the benefits.
One under-appreciated perk of being Gold are the addition Avios (in my mind).
Most of my long-haul flying is in J and with the additional earnings I can almost make back the avios required to upgrade to F on my common routes.
Requires a bit of flexibility to find flights where upgrades are available though (that's one of the reasons I'm currently going for GGL, to get the jokers).
Attaining status with two alliances is not too hard, keeping it is.
And when starting out, you won't have any benefits, which kind of sucks.
