LAS in Jan - will prices drop?

[edit: this is for first week of Jan only, i.e. during CES; however as a vet attendee of 12+yrs I've never seen it be this steep this far ahead of show]
I know nobody has a crystal ball, but London to Vegas early January is circa £1850 in economy (Sun/Mon-Thur/Fri/Sat).
I've booked a backup Avios seat in the hope it'll come down to a sensible price for a cash booking. Even connecting via a sensible nearby airport doesn't help (PHX or LAX tricks not working).
Is there any chance this is related to current LHR limitations or is it simply demand/expectation of demand?
I can see the flights are not busy by seat allocation and on Expert Flyer, so just wondering if anyone has any insight?

Wow that is expensive!

Does your stay include a Saturday night?

It could be all of those factors. Saturday Night Rule or something else. It's very difficult to say anything useful without some dates. A quick look suggests there are lower priced buckets available, e.g. L on 2 January and even Q if going via PHL but it's almost an impossible query in it's current form.

For £400 less you could depart from DUB and travel in a club suite. Economy from DUB is £400 in Jan

so...business as usual.

Isn’t it the CES convention which puts flights and accom up ?

CES in early Jan has historically put many hotel prices up.

In addition unfortunately these days Vegas hotels don't need an excuse for high prices. Days of cheap Vegas long gone. Avoid weekends for hotels.

Unsure the international flight prices though are affected by CES. With flight schedules cut by many, I suspect prices will stay high for some time.

DUB certainly a good choice and you get and extra flight for less money.

Are you going there for CES? If so, note that flights and hotels are always expensive. It's a cool experience though.

Yes basically this. But BA hasn't decided to bring back its A380 intent of before sadly.

I think all fares in and out of LHR will be expensive until LHR fully opens up when they have ground staff back to handle capacity

That won’t happen. If you’re not attending CES then avoid Vegas this week. If you are attending, then as others have mentioned, look at alternative routings,

I don't understand. As others have mentioned, LHR-LAS in Jan looks fairly typical for what it's always been. You can get on the BA direct LHR-LAS £780 return 4th - 11th Jan. Quick scan of other dates looks similar. I doubt CES will affect flights from London that much. Hotels are a different story.
If you're not including a Saturday night stay then the flights are always ridiculously priced.

-We should not dissuade the OP from attending CES because it is a great experience
-The airfare he posted seemed okay to me, and his hotel costs will be much more...unless he selects a really bad hotel in downtown (e.g. I got one the Ogden House for $30 during 2003 CES for one night only, and then switched to a semi-okay hotel for $300 per night afterward)

I agree that going to Vegas during CES and not attending CES (or at least the parties) is silly.

You folks to realize that the AVN (Adult Video ) awards and convention are no longer held during CVS?
