My daughter and BF were on the cancelled BA8495 LCY-BE (it was cancelled after they had cleared security. They are re-booked for tomorrow from LHR, and have been told by BA to take an Uber to a hotel at LHR, for which they will be reimbursed. Is anyone who has access to such things able to give me any information about the reason for the cancellation? I don't want her wasting time on a EC261 claim if it will prove to be fruitless. Thanks in anticipation.

it is listed as OPEY so yes to comp. Operational reasons but not sure exactly what.

BA1459 Tonight

Wondered if anybody has any guesses as to what will happen to BA1459 EDI-LHR tonight. It was meant to operate at 1845 but looks like they took G-EUYF and used it on the delayed earlier BA1455 flight to cover that one.

Current ETA is 2250 which would suggest G-EUPJ may fly back after BA1462 lands instead of operating first flight tomorrow (and BA1440 operating that one with knock on delays).

If this happens it’s a 319 not 320 on full flight with no announcements suggesting a dozen people will be left behind - also what would crew do in this situation, potentially earlier crew are still here but pushing on for time?

Or is a new shiny 320 and crew whisking it’s way here just for us.

None of this makes the slightest bit of difference but I have nothing better to do and I’ve already been here for 4 hours so Im just curious on anybody else’s thoughts.

Novel idea but if they did use the plane to operate 1455 instead any chance on 261 compensation since weather didn’t directly impact this flights or likely to be denied under knock on grounds even though the plane scheduled for this looks like it was here.

Not sure if I’m misreading the post but BA1459 appears to have operated on time. The last flight of the evening however has been cancelled according to ExpertFlyer

The early flight (19.00) is cancelled for the foreseeable. We are due to fly on that flight on 4th August. It is still being sold by BA. When is ‘to early’ to approach BA about changing? There is no option to change in MMB.

1459 didn’t go but was tracking as left on what was actually the 1455

BA finally came to the same conclusion as me, that it wasn’t going to work, and have now cancelled it.

Until it is formally cancelled for your date you can’t make a voluntary change without incurring any fees and fare difference

So the Tuesday evening report.

One extra cancellation on the day today
BA1452 to EDI

Plus at the moment the late NCL, due at 21:10, is even later, and is shown as leaving LHR at 00:08, so 3 hours late there.

Which means that 246, arguably 247 aircraft ran today.

- 54 ran on time or the last few flights are expected so to do. On time of course means up to 15 too
- 5 flights ran early (just a few minutes)
- 179 services ran at least 15 minutes late, so 72% of all operating flights
- average delay 1 hour
- median delay 52 minutes

Delays over 2 hours today:
BA0718 LHRZRH 17:35 19:37 02:02
BA0704 LHRVIE 15:20 17:30 02:10
BA0972 LHRHAM 18:55 21:08 02:13
BA0858 LHRPRG 19:45 22:00 02:15
BA2612 LHRNAP 18:15 20:32 02:17
BA0183 LHRJFK 19:05 21:26 02:21
BA0866 LHRBUD 07:15 09:37 02:22
BA0293 LHRIAD 17:10 19:32 02:22
BA0966 LHRHAM 15:30 17:54 02:24
BA1338 LHRNCL 21:10 00:08Wed 02:58
BA0578 LHRVCE 08:45 13:15 04:30
BA0099 LHRYYZ 17:05 22:15 05:10

Day 6 Lost Baggage - assistance with World Tracer

Please offer advice if I’ve posted In wrong area (1st post)

Day 6 - Given up hope that bag will be delivered to holiday destination in time so trying to amend permanent address in world tracer form to reflect home address, everything is greyed out, what can I do? Bag was incorrectly rerouted into Athens where it still sits (I’m tracking with apple air tag) …

Dear Kat1 welcome to FlyerTalk

Unfortunately i can't help you as i dont know how worldtracer works. I do hope you are reunited with your luggage sooner than later.

Paging corporate-wage-slave or other FTers who may know the answer to your question.

That doesn't seem unlikely, although the delay reason for the flight they were denied boarding on (BA8493, 3h 23m late) is listed as ZY.

What I don't understand is why it took until almost three hours after the scheduled departure time to deny boarding to a number of passengers in order to get the weight down. Apparently 12 checked-in passengers were left without a ride. Finding this out sooner would have given them more time to decide what to do (and got them and their bags out of the airport, improving the situation there for everybody else).

KARFA wrote above that reducing loads in hot weather is a known summer phenomenon at LCY, so it shouldn't have been a surprise to BA. (Yesterday's temperatures were extreme, but not entirely unexpected.)

The BA1452 was the 16.35 departure from Heathrow which eventually got cancelled at around 9pm last night after having been shown as a delay. The plane’s return from Edinburgh at 18.45 was cancelled around the same time. No doubt lots of unhappy people for the staff to deal with. BA must have run of crew I presume since the plane allocated had arrived from Venice around 7pm which had been the cause of the original delay to the 1452.

A lot of unhappy customers in Edinburgh last night when cancellation was announced. Lounge had shut at 19:30 due to staff shortages and most people who were lucky got booked on to Glasgow departures today with no support to get there. A piece of paper handed out saying we’re sorry but with no specifics half an hour after cancellation. Only a single agent to rebook everyone at 10pm who unfortunately got a lot of people’s wrath. By the time I left the queue he was still rebooking the first customer and queue snaked to door.

All being said I did manage to get to London this morning so can’t be too grumpy myself.

My PNR for this trip now has 6 flights associated with it which may be a new record for a domestic for me.
