Rerouting LGW delayed bags from LHR

Travel partners of mine made their tight JFK-LGW connection to DBV but bags missed.

We are all going on a boat and our stop tomorrow is closest to Corfu. Does anyone know if BA can reroute bags on tomorrows LHR-CFU given any hope of them getting to DBV seem shot?

It's a bit like a letter in the post. You can certainly have your bag redirected, and when it goes through the London airport concerned they will simply move the bag to a suitable aircraft for the latest address. But what you can't do is be assured that a partitcular bag can go on a particular aircraft, it doesn't work that way. With so many bags out of kilter at the moment I would assume this will take a day or two longer than normal.

I guess asking otherwise, is there an efficient way to ask for a CFU delivery as opposed to DBV? Just putting the Corfu airport as the delivery address perhaps?

I would put the name of somewhere you will be in about 3 or 4 days, ideally a hotel which will be quite used to storing a bag for a few days. At the moment even 3 to 4 days is fairly optimistic - they usually go on legacy carriers and CFU is more LCC dominated.

Airlines tend not to be set up to reflight bags from alternative airports, so unless someone is really on the ball it’s unlikely anything at LGW would be moved to LHR. Believe it or not it’s far more likely to be sent on a convoluted route, e.g. LGW-AMS-ATH-CFU.
