JER - when can I drop bags?
I think I’m being dumb as I can’t find an answer to this for the life of me.
Our big summer holiday this year is Jersey with my wife having pulled the plug on Singapore for reasons that beggar belief.
We’re flying home on the 18:00 JER-EDI flight but need to be out of our accommodation by 10:00am. Given that there are several BA flights to London that day, I assume check-in will be staffed all day? If so, would we be able to get our boarding passes and drop our bags off at 10:30ish and then go about our day unencumbered? My instinct says yes but it would be frustrated if we went to the airport to be told no,
many thanks for helping.

Enjoy your visit!
I’m not aware of any early bag-drop facility, other than normal check-in processes. Have you tried ‘reaching out’ to the Airport?

So I just called Jersey Airport and spoke to a lovely lady. You can only check in bags from 2.5 hours before your flight and once you’ve done so you are not allowed to leave the airport. And given that this is Jersey they’d probably know too. But for the reasonable sum of Ł3 a bag you can leave your luggage at the airport and with this service they do allow you to leave the airport.
So I guess this means (given the size of hire cars there), I’ll be driving to the airport on the last day, leaving the luggage and then driving back to pick up the family. And of course we’re staying on the East of the island which is about as far as you can get from the airport
but for Ł6 and an hour’s inconvenience I think it is probably worthwhile.
many thanks.

Gosh that’s really kind. I think we’re now sorted as the first place (La Place) does transfers so it’s just the end of the second week that is the problem. And I’ve now realised I can dump our large cases at the airport the day before we fly which takes away the morning panic with the added bonus that my wife won’t be able to leave her stuff to the last minute!

Sounds good, but the offer still stands if help is needed.
Enjoy La Place … we stayed there ages and ages ago, before we moved here. Pleasant then, and apparently even better now, but you do need a car there!

As for driving across the island in 22 minutes, it reminds me of my father drolly asking me why anyone who lived in Bermuda would wish to speed given that doing so only serves to show how small the island is when you inevitably hit water!

As I am [still] retired and don't seem to be travelling much, it seems appropriate to be able to help another FT-er in 'distress' if I can. Provided I don't have to get up early to do it.
