It's more a shortage of crew, and you can't just hire in Finnair pilots without them bringing their toys with them. Today is currently O-HLXI, tomorrow is currently G-EUUV as things stand.

With W23 due to start in a matter of weeks, BA don’t seem to have announced which flights Finnair will operate this winter.

Ironically I got more appreciation for my OneWorld Loyalty when I boarded Finnair

In general, Finnair planes are well managed, but if you fly CE, you should consider that their "narrow body planes" don't have any power outlets

FYI BA have now loaded the Finnair wetleases into their W23 schedule. No proactive emails though.

Had a look at my booking in January 2024, and surprisingly my WAW-LHR flight has been changed to Finnair (No e-mail sent to me, though!) - it seems quite a few of the WAW sectors are Finnair around that time.
Honestly I'm still surprised that these leases are happening, didn't BA start leasing from Finnair back in 2022?

They are still happening because BA does not have enough pilots to fly their services. Despite the hard work of the training department providing lots of fresh faces, there are still pilots retiring, and the odd silly billy being fired for misbehaviour. They all have to be replaced. It will be well into 2024, and possibly 2025 before BA has enough pilots.

Our LHR-ATH return in December is Finnair . They operated our NAP -LHR earlier this year and I have to say I was impressed with their CE service.

Yet.

Id hazard a guess they will make a proactive disclosure that meets their legal requirements at some point between now and check-in opening.

I noticed the same, LHR-BCN flight in December is now operated by Finnair. While I am a fan of Finnair, due to another reason I might want to change that flight - connecting flight was both re-timed a bit, and moved from T3 to T5, and I booked a 3-hour connection window to due to the expected slow wheelchair assistance.

I am considering changing to an earlier LHR-BCN flight - would BA now allow that change free of charge? I called in (before the Finnair change) and they wanted to charge over $200 to do that which wasn't worth it to me.

BTW: that earlier call took over 45 minutes so I don't want to repeat that only to find out that they won't waive the change fee in the end.

Operated by Finnair

Anyone had any recent experience of a BA operated flight being changed to be operated by finnair without being informed?

At time of booking the flight was operated by BA (and definitely not a Finnair lease) but appears between booking and travelling the flight changed to Finnair.

no bigy, but would be nice if Ba informed pax in advance? Only found out when checking in.

Not based on personal experience, but they should have notified you. From what I understand you should have the option to switch to a BA-operated flight (but it is probably a bit too late now that you're checking in). However, it's common knowledge that BA's I.T. systems aren't really the greatest so I am not surprised you weren't notified.

From what I have heard it seems like you should have a similar if not better experience with Finnair, so I wouldn't be too worried (particularly if you're in J). However, I have travelled on a Finnair flight once myself and have found the crew to be somewhat miserable and unattentive, but I reckon my experience is an anomaly based on other posts.

I noticed the same change in MMB for a flight coming up in mid-December. No email notification (which I did get last time for a flight in September). I'd rate AY crew higher than BA crew looking at the average.
