Expiring avios in a week

My in-law has a small amount of Avios expiring next week. What is the easiest way to extend the expiration? Or are there anything worth to use it on? We don't have plan to travel within oneworld in the near future.

There are quite a few threads on this topic with useful advice. Here is one of them.

Quickest way to earn 1 Avios

There are links to additional threads in the second post of that thread.

Thanks for the link.

Additional question, if I book a ticket and cancel it within 24 hours, will that keep the avios alive?

Cancelling Avios ticket within 24 hours of booking

I have no idea as I've never tried it. In theory, spending Avios will keep them alive but I am unsure whether BA's systems are smart enough to recognize your attempt to circumvent their rules.

[deleted] Idea only works if RFS is available, which it probably won't be because the avios are expiring

Very unlikely. As soon as you cancel the reservation the Avios will be returned and therefore you no longer meet the 36 month rule because you have not spent or earned an Avios. The quickest and cheapest way to protect the Avios is to purchase 1000 Avios.

If they live in the UK just order a takeaway from JustEat after clicking through from the Shopping portal.
