Minimum Connecting Time at EDI

Iím flying KOI - EDI - LCY on a BA issued ticket (with a single PNR) in June. Itís the return leg of a weekís holiday on Orkney.

BA have just emailed to say that the KOI - EDI flight (on Loganair) has been changed with the result that I now only have 40 mins to change planes in EDI - so I fear no lounge time.

But, more importantly, does that meet the minimum connection time for onward flights from EDI?

Secondly, if it does meet the MCT, is it likely that my hold luggage will make it onto the LCY flight with me?

Grateful for advice, as always.

Given the glut of BA flights from EDI to LON, it shouldn't be too hard to rebook on a slightly later flight ...and you'll get your lounge time back.

Thanks all.

Itís the convenience of LCY which is 20 mins from home which is the more important and I am (soon to be was) on the last LCY flight back from EDI!

So I suppose I need to ring up and get the flight changed to LHR.

Would it be possible to ask to be routed via GLA instead and connect to LCY from there?

I tried that but again, I miss the last flight.

However thatís the least of my worries. An email has now arrived about the outward journey on 19 June. We were flying LHR - ABZ - KOI but the Loganair flight has now been brought forward by 40 minutes and this brings the connection under an hour.

Despite that the BA app seems to be accepting it as valid?

This is a valid connection. This MCT is 0:45.

Ah gotcha. The MCT is 45 mins for ABZ not 1 hour. Still tight though. I hope the bags will make itÖ

There isn't necessarily a single MCT for any particular airport. MCTs are highly dependent on airline / origin / destination / flight number / operating airline / aircraft type / captain's inside leg measurement, etc. Even if you specify an inbound airline and an outbound airline, there can be a lengthy and bewildering list of different MCTs. This one thing that automated checks are very good at looking for; humans, not so good.

BTW, I don't think the BA app is "accepting" your itinerary as valid. The app simply shows you the current state of your booking. Where there's been a schedule change, bookings are often left with illegal connections that need to be sorted out later. The app doesn't do anything other than display your booking, including any illegal connections.

The second email invites me to accept the changes for the outbound leg. It refers to the ABZ - KOI flight as being cancelled and it has been given a new BA flight number although it seems that only the timing has changed. So I assume that they are happy with the MCT.

Iíll give the Gold line a ring tomorrow and see what they have to say about the Edinburgh flight.

Does anyone have any experience of bags making it/being left behind on BA/LM short connection flights on these routes?

The discussion moved from EDI to ABZ, and reversed direction too.

The whole point of MCT is that it’s the minimum time in which a passenger and their bags will be able to make a connection without hassle. If it regularly happened that they didn’t, the MCT would be increased.

If for whatever reason the bag didn’t make your flight, it would be sent on the next one and delivered to you. If having to buy a change of clothes would bother you, pack a spare set in hand luggage just in case. But as it stands, everyone - including the two airlines concerned - see no problem with your itinerary.
