BA519 LIS to LHR today 26 March delayed - help with reason for delay.

Hi all just received an email and text from BA informing me that my flight back to LHR today is delayed. Instead of departing at 15:55 it is now expected to depart at 18:30 arriving in LHR at 21:10. Check in still closes at 14:55 so I assume they hope to catch up at some point.

Does anyone know what may have caused this delay? I assume that EC261 delay compensation only kicks in if we arrive at LHR and doors open more than 3 hours after scheduled arrival which was supposed to be 18:55?

Heathrow is busy again so presumably knock on effects due to stand/tug availability?

Thanks for replying. So if I arrive more than 3 hours later than scheduled EC261 compensation applies as its an operational issue?

I am flying Club so will have lounge access at LIS but assume they have to offer food and drinks vouchers if delay persists.

I guess so. Also LIS-LHR is over the 1500km limit.

TBH I'd rather arrive on schedule but I'd also rather just be delayed than suffer a flight cancellation. I was given a €15 voucher to spend on food not that there is a huge choice of options outside the lounge and the check in staff were very apologetic. Latest update is flight is now expected to depart at 18:43 so 12 minutes under 3 hours late although they expect ro make up some time in the air and arrive at 21:21.

The inbound isn’t due to land until 1817 so you won’t be departiNg at 1843. New ETD Is 1902 and landing 2140 so under the threshold but looks like the outbound flight will qualify if eligible.

Thanks John. That's helpful to know. A PITA but as I said better than suffering an outright cancellation.

Since the aircraft (G-TTNN) was 30 minutes ahead of schedule from its other service this morning, LCA-LHR, this very much suggests a lack of flight or cabin crew.

The good news is that the plane is moving. Currently queuing for take off. So it’s going to be at least 3-4 hours late. If it goes to a bus gate at LIS it can be more as it tend to take long time in LIS to find buses for late aircrafts.

Thanks c-w-s . The outbound BA 518 flight apparently left LHR at 16:08 and flight status on BA says the 519 will depart at 19:25 and arrive in LHR at 22:03 which would be in scope for delay compensation . I just hope it does depart and we don't end up being cancelled (the last departure after the 519 has already been cancelled.)

Thanks. I am hopeful we will get away tonight but useful to know. Lounge just bought out some rather nice snacks so watered and fed. Enjoying the runway view so should be able to see the 518 land.
