EI YQ with Avios risen dramatically?

Not sure if this is new, so please delete if I haven't been paying attention. I don't believe I've paid significant fuel surcharges on USA-DUB flights in J using BA Avios in years past. When I did a search today, though, two seats from IAD-DUB are showing $1400 in surcharges. A paid business search is also showing a $700 YQ surcharge per ticket.

Can you transfer to EI and book via Avios.com? Obviously check availability first.

For an economy DUB-US one way ticket on EI the taxes/surcharges always used to be about £50-60 booked on the phone via BA.

On BA.com I can see they're now £125. No idea if the lower price is still available if you call.

Checking on ITA the carrier surcharge on EI for DUB-JFK is €209.00 r/t in business class ( approx GBP176 ) , roundtrip ex USA seems to be a mindblowing $1,400.00 r/t

2x one ways would reduce dramatically to about $816

A one-way ex-US is $700, at least based on IAD-DUB.

Indeed - but with a r/t ticket you will have 2 $700 = $1400 whilst with 2 x one way tickets, will have to pay $700 outbound on the ex-USA ticket and appprox $116 on the ex-Ireland ticket for a total of approx $816

I just did a dummy booking on Avios.com - looking at single flights in Business

IAD-DUB 50k avios + £104.30
DUB-IAD 50k avios + £123.50

If you use the right booking channel, EI business class redemptions are still very good value.

Is this for EI metal only? I guess I need to actually find an EI flight with J availability to confirm. I saw a JFK-MAD-LHR offering in J on IB at AVIOS.com (w/ my EI acct.) and the fees were $829!! That's a bit insane.

I see that now, thanks. Looks like EI might be away to get to Europe at a decent rate in J.
