This is quite a fair point. According to the fleets thread on this forum, there were supposed to be only 9 A319s left this year. Currently there are 30. I wonder what is going to happen to those A321s, even though they are on the schedule to do some flights.

I agree I have a few T3 flights scheduled as "A321" without the NEO descriptor. I doubt they'll actually be a CEO and rather an A320 when the time comes around

Seems an odd choice though as some of the A319s are 23 years old and for a narrow body that's a long career. The original A320s were scrapped at 18-19 years old. Having said that the A321s date from 2004 so......

Small aircraft are back in favour at the moment, given they need to operate flights to keep slots alive but don’t have enough crew. An A319 needs only 3, while an A321 needs 5. I think this explains the continued operation of A319s more than anything else right now.

G-VIIU to LHR, presumably for light maintenance leaving LGW looking a little light for 777s. Looks like a 77L is scheduled to cover the CUN flight in the next hour, but not able to locate an incoming from LHR in the past day or so.

Don't pay too much attention to the codes you see on flightradar unless the actual registration is shown. It will be a LGW configured 777 operating the flight.

You're most likely right- I thought the LGW ones were all allocated today, but I think VIIR might be spare. I'll stick to my own day job!

I saw the other day that G-VIIU did a flight to DOH (and so did many other 777's
since when does BA fly LGW-DOH?
I'm guessing this wasn't a pax flight?, but what is it ?
BA2032/33 is very busy.....

I think these might be Finnair A321s being operated for BA? I thought the A321s would go to LGW where their extra capacity gives good CASM and would be important against easyJet. No sign of that happening.

Since the start of the summer season, BA has operated a daily BA2032/33 to/from DOH. There is a whole thread on here somewhere. Most likely, the less premium heavy LGW 777s are a better fit for the route.

Here's the main thread: Why did BA move DOH to LGW ?

Heavier though so more ATC charges plus need 2 more cabin crew.

Fair but which would you want in service for next summer? I guess they're not as confident on demand springing back on short haul.

Personally I believe short haul leisure will be ok. I think at the moment they do not need the larger aircraft on the main more business orientated European city pairs. Use of the A319s enables them to
maintain some frequency and use those slots, as well as fewer cabin crew!

Worth pointing out that as the A319s are owned, their retirement dates would’ve been provisional based on hours and cycles. They will be used right up until they need a C/D check. As they barely flew for two years, this would naturally push their retirement dates back.

If any of them have been kept on and undergone that major maintenance procedure, that’s a different story, but I don’t think they have.
