Interspousal Avios Gift to extend Avios life?

We have a number of Avios miles expiring soon and I wonder if I gift miles to my spouse, would that be considered as activity in both accounts, pushing the expiry date of miles in both accounts a few years away? It would have been cheaper to buy some junk from the BA e-store, but they have a warning posted there that purchases may not post before 30 days which is after the expiry date. What would you do?

How about each of you taking an online survey for a few Avios?

Are you UK based? If so just transfer a small number of points to Nectar. If you are both in a Household account - then one transfer would be drawn from both account is the same way as a BA redemption. These can then be transferred back in at some point in the future when you need them.

Have you been told they are expiring, or did you notice and think they are ? Back in summer- BA "gifted" a single Avios to lots of member to prevent the Avios expiring... see here Mystery 1 Avios - FlyerTalk Forums

I know the literal interpretation of expiry rules just says you have to earn 1 Avio but is it absolutely certain that earning points from a survey, which doesn't involve spending any money, will keep other Avios from expiring?

A reasonable suggestion but OP should note that the transfer rate is now not equal, so if you transfer to nectar and transfer back later, you do loose some Avios in the process.

Yes it does the necessary, see this thread for more ideas, and note the more recent posts on Uber and Pret if you are able to stretch to a couple of pounds.

Live in the UK? Take an uber or buy a cheapo train ticket for avios within 24 hours to reset the clock.
