Oman Air seeks oneworld membership
Reuters reported yesterday
“State-owned Oman Air announced on Sunday its intention to apply to join the oneworld global airline alliance and said it had asked fellow Gulf carrier and member Qatar Airways to help it.”
"As airlines recover from COVID-19, alliances will become more important by providing global connectivity, as airlines reshape their networks, many with reduced fleets when compared to their pre-COVID size," the onewolrd spokesman said“

Great news for BAEC members if this comes to fruition.

Sounds good. Here's a link to a list of Oman Air destinations.

If you think QR’s back office service is mediocre, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
Somewhat mixed feelings about this one, personally, but recognise WY probably has to do something to even survive without haemorrhaging cash in the future.

This is interesting - would think that having QR in the alliance, another ME airline would not be desireable. WY is an interesting one though. I have only been on them twice on a BKK-MCT-BKK return in J, and while the service was far from as polished as the larger airlines, it did leave me with a positive impression. Hard product is the same as JAL's latest SkySuite which is great, and food quite good as well - only shame is the WY lounge (they have their own) in BKK is also a Priority Pass lounge, which it really does not have the capacity to be.

Wonder if this is linked to their recent attempts to reach out to the trade smooth over (and start repaying) refunds on flights they cancelled over a year ago...?

Don't think I missed a thread here today, but looks like Omanair are in.

very good news. I had an excellent flight from DOH to CMB a couple of weeks ago, Omanair operated for QR. Really nice seats, excellent crew.

Also had a recent positive experience of Oman Air in J. If you're a fan of QR then you will like WY.. the service style is almost identical. But unlike QR they are not hiding behind COVID to reduce their inflight service.

Had a very good trip with them too so great to have them in. Shame about needing to wait till 2024 even though that isnt unusual.

The time to integrate the new OW airline IT system into Oneworld tends to get longer. Not meet the initial time line.

I noticed Kayak offers Oman Air (WY) when limiting searches to Oneworld carriers. I took that as a promising sign, but perhaps that's just Kayak's IT. I was hoping WY might join from start of 2024, but expect we should hear soon, if that's to be the case.

If you think BA IT is bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet, so don’t expect earning / redeeming to be straight forward at first
I was issued with a mobile boarding pass for the wrong flight number on WY once a couple of years ago.
