BA at Manchester
MAN airport website for BA info (including security wait times): https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/...itish-airways/
Terminal and check-in desks:
All BA flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3.
Departure:
Fast Track security is available, subject to usual BA rules. It works pretty well most of the time, but do check before you join the fast track lane if it's a single lane to avoid taking longer in fast track than in the normal lanes.
According to the airport, the following retail and food offerings are available in Terminal 3: World Duty Free, KFC, Lion & Antelope, Costa, WHSmith, Boots, The Nook, Kiosco and Pork & Pickle
Lounges:
The Escape Lounge in T3 is available for BA passengers. As with the previous arrangement at T3, we assume Escape will allow access along usual BA eligibility rules (class of travel and / or status), including 2 guests for GGL and Premier cardholders. The lounge is open from 04:00 and closes at 19:45 each day except Saturdays when it will close at 17:30.
Gates:
Flights typically depart from from Gate 142 or 143.
Boarding is generally prioritised by Groups.
Arrivals:
Flights land at Terminal 3. Travelex and WHSmith will be open in Terminal 3 Arrivals.
Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is at Terminal 3

As a regular MAN user pre covid I'm sure the pandemic hasn't helped but they've had institutionalised issues for as long as I can remember.
I went through T1 on an LH booking a few weeks back, fortunately had a fastrack ticket, going out through security was OK for fastrack, grim for the normal queue. What was worse was immigration on the way back, having to shuffle past the main line to even get to Fastrack.
Anyway, coming back to BA. Got my first post pandemic flights with BA on April 26th, MAN/LHR/BUD with a 1 hour 35 connection at LHR incl the hop to T3.
BA have the flight listed as departing MAN T3, parking is booked accordingly in T3 multi. However what I'm digesting from here is Park at T3, walk to T1, fastrack (Gold) T1 security, cut through to T3, T3 Escape lounge, hope!
I need to check entry requirements but am hoping OLCI will be an option, thus avoiding queuing for a bording pass as well as I'll be HBO. I suppose at least there is a later LHR/BUD to fall back on.

I used to work at MAN for MAplc back in the 1980's and 90's. It was a pure joy and I had immense pride in the place. We attracted a whole bunch of carriers I was involved in getting; CX, DL, AI, EK, and numerous European operations.
We worked very closely with airlines to try and create the product they needed. Security was nowhere near the issue it is now. Of course the numbers were not as high as now but we were still packing 21 million through back then.
Successive managements then went on to flatter the balance sheet by sweating the asset. They got so far behind capacity relative to demand that they were playing catch up. Chasing low cost carriers meant more and more space needed for overnight fleet parking - an unintended consequence of chasing volume.
The experience these days is either mediocre or painful. I've been shouted at by security staff, bawled at by their duty managers and ignored when I ask questions. As someone who flies about 200 times a year the lack of competence pains me.

TV news reports this morning say MAN is operating well with no significant delays through security. That's promising given it is the first weekend of the Easter getaway period. Let's hope that continues.

Theyve obviously sweet talked someone in the media! Could be the luck of the time of the day like I had on Thursday (security was empty).

Most schools in the Manchester area closed up last Friday the 1st, so I wasn’t expecting to see a similar Peak this weekend really. Not sure what the schools terms in the rest of the catchment area are. We got some really good deals for next week. In fact when we checked yesterday our same holiday had gone down by 11 each! There was a definite drop off in prices flying out just before and over the Easter weekend. Schools return on Tuesday after the Monday BH, so I’m pretty sure this is being reflected in current prices and hence hoping when we fly out this Wednesday for a week away we won’t have many problems! Crossing everything! It’s our first T2 visit since it opened, so hoping 9am flight time won’t be bad getting through!

There are far fewer negative stories over the last few days, so hopefully things are improving.

OCLI is an option
My concern would be the late arrival of your flight into T5, then the delays to get off the plane, then getting to T3....
but good luck, have a good flight

Was in todays Sunday Times but noticed article dated yesterday. I flew from MAN Thursday, long Fast Track queue but moved quickly and noticed staff being trained in security. Flight only a few minutes late so 🤞

Yes. Enter T1 - go via security, and then there is a direct route to T3 (no need to go via duty free)

I'm flying exMAN at 1605, hand-bags only, will have fast-track and mobile BP.
What's the latest you'd realistically arrive?
If I got a train arriving to the airport station at 14:35 (so T-90), that should be fine, right?

What day would it be? Some days of the week seem to be worse than others.
I must admit I would probably aim for arriving 2-2.5 hrs before atm. Sods law of course if you come earlier you will be lucky and be through in 5 minutes, whereas if you left it until 90 mins you would end up in the mother of all security queues!

Agree, I would aim to arrive at Manchester station at least 2 hours before, I suspect a lot of people are buying Fast Track passes because of the reported long queues. Given it is the Easter period (assuming you are flying this week) and there is still a lot of Covid around I would personally arrive at the station around 3 hours before the flight, but I am happy to sit in the lounge and read if everything runs smoothly... BA passengers seem to be getting priority at the T3 Escape lounge.

I did read one report of someone who turned up five hours early for their (not BA) flight. They were through check-in and security in under 15 minutes so had over 4 hours hanging around at the gate.
