BA at Manchester
MAN airport website for BA info (including security wait times): https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/...itish-airways/
Terminal and check-in desks:
All BA flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3.
Departure:
Fast Track security is available, subject to usual BA rules. It works pretty well most of the time, but do check before you join the fast track lane if it's a single lane to avoid taking longer in fast track than in the normal lanes.
According to the airport, the following retail and food offerings are available in Terminal 3: World Duty Free, KFC, Lion & Antelope, Costa, WHSmith, Boots, The Nook, Kiosco and Pork & Pickle
Lounges:
The Escape Lounge in T3 is available for BA passengers. As with the previous arrangement at T3, we assume Escape will allow access along usual BA eligibility rules (class of travel and / or status), including 2 guests for GGL and Premier cardholders. The lounge is open from 04:00 and closes at 19:45 each day except Saturdays when it will close at 17:30.
Gates:
Flights typically depart from from Gate 142 or 143.
Boarding is generally prioritised by Groups.
Arrivals:
Flights land at Terminal 3. Travelex and WHSmith will be open in Terminal 3 Arrivals.
Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is at Terminal 3

Just because the majority of passenger are on a jet2 (etc) type holiday where they arrive 2/3 hours before flying, don't expect to go to a lounge and having to queue isn't the end of the world, doesn't mean ALL passengers are like that.
Their attitude stinks for people trying to commute where the airport experience is actually the longest part of the journey.

We used Fasttrack at T1 the other weekend, and currently it’s 20% off. So It was 4. We glad we did as the usual line was quite long, we got through in a few minutes and made the most of a 1 hour 16 slot in Escape lounge. That was a low cost trip with another carrier. We are using BA this week for another trip, and the usual courtesy Fast Track for BA customer should hopefully mean a faultless security journey once again!

I tend to stick to normal track often. My perception is fast track is not that fast, and also always seems to have an even higher proportion of trays waiting for secondaries with only one person processing them.

Last Monday we went through circa 5am and only Security B was open so down there Fast Track gets you half way along the queue and then everyone merges and snakes the rest of the way to the trays together.
Having just gone through the barrier the person manning the queue handing out plastic bags came running after us (and another gentleman in front) and I assumed we were either about to be challenged as to whether we should have been there or be turfed out but no, she actually opened up the Tensa barriers and marshalled us to the VERY front of the queue, she then also got her colleague who was co-ordinating people into position by the trays to ensure we were next.
All in all we were through a pretty busy hall in less than 5 minutes. I can only assume she was new and hasn't yet had the life sucked out of her by MAG.

i already moaned about this on a separate thread but it does make me feel a bit better that this terrible experience is more common.
while i went thru on sat at 2pm, all seemed quiet and the fast trak lane rope was not open...but i did not see anyone in normal security...until i turned the corner--but still not really a terrible line at all.
was ushered into one of the far right lanes that would have been where i ended up w fast trak...but the man was barking at me to take every single electronic out. i was confused bc one bag is my "go bag" meaning is is always packed the exact same for every trip and it is easy for me to take out my bag of liquids and devices. this time i had a secondary bag with a bluetooth speaker, toothbrush and some other small things. well at the time i only recalled the speaker and he forced THAT out, fine, i just needed the shouting to stop.
i go through and think UH OH. the post-detector side is absolutely rammed. these two lanes had easily 40 people waiting for the secondary bag screens. i nervously wait and my duffle (with excess electronics) come out...and my go bag is pushed aside.
now it is 205pm ahead of my 305 departure. i wait and wait and wait behind dozens of other secondary bags.
at 240pm mine is up (the manager said to find him if it hit 240pm and mine was still not brought forward so as to not miss my flight).
the agent goes in to my bag and searches and searches and finds nothing. she takes out my wallet and inspects it and nothing. i ask what is it that caused this? she vaguely looked to the monitor and felt around the bag, looked at a battery pack and that was all. no answer. i said so this wait was for nothing because you found nothing? she just shrugged and said "electronics" to which i pointed to all my electronics sitting in front of her in the bin...THOSE?
she asked which airline, i said BA, she went off for a second, came back and said ok thanks.
worst experience ever especially given it was JUST THESE TWO LANES that were so outrageously backed up! there were plenty of other lanes open with none of this nonsense which makes no sense statistically if the same number of people are going through at the same time.

And then there’s the rest of us that get to the airport, take everything electrical out as requested, and are generally in the lounge 5 minutes later
In my hundreds of visits to MAN, I’ve never been BARKED AT / SHOUTED AT.

and taking an electric toothbrush out or small bluetooth speaker or apple watch out why exactly? why just there? why do they specifically need every single electronic item as opposed to normal large items?
also this does not speak to the issue of just these two lanes have multiples of secondary bags compared to all the other open lanes at the time!

One issue I did have Ive mentioned on here before. The X-Ray staff spotted what what they thought were bullets in my carry-on. They searched the bag but couldnt find anything. Eventually they called me over and asked could I account for the bullet like shapes in my bag. After a few seconds I realised they were my metal collar stifferners in my work shirts

I've only flown from MAN twice, and on both occasions one of my bags was sent to secondary inspection (despite my having carefully removed everything including cables and electronics) leading to a 20-minute wait and nothing being found at the end of it. Awful airport.

most of my secondaries are now because "it didn't scan" rather than anything actually spotted.
i think if they are sat in the machine for too long (perhaps the rest of the conveyor after is blocked with trays waiting) it goes to secondary as well regardless.

05:10 this morning and the whole process took around 20-minutes. Fast Track appeared shut, but upon entering the normal lane the staff member spotted a CE mobile BP and pulled open the tensa barrier. I was glad not to have to navigate the excessive snaking of the other lane and there were around seven people already in the tray area. Staff were encouraging me to use a separate tray for each laptop removed from cases, which I didn't do, but they were friendly enough. Following previous posts I wondered about my bag of cables (which is always left in my bag) but left it in as an experiment. Tray collection area was mobbed with people waiting and getting re-dressed, four bags waiting for a secondary and mine was added to that queue. Interestingly the friendly and chatty inspector wasn't interested in the cable bag though, but instead a cufflink box fashioned from a shoe polish pot. I commented that it's been through scanners countless times previously without issue and he advised that an attentive x-ray operator would confuse the foam padding for actual shoe polish. Reassuring I guess for today's upcoming flight, but makes me wonder about next time it isn't spotted! Certainly glad I had Fast Track access though - the other queue appeared to have a sizeable wait and most of the scanners were out of service.
