BA at Manchester
MAN airport website for BA info (including security wait times): https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/...itish-airways/
Terminal and check-in desks:
All BA flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3.
Departure:
Fast Track security is available, subject to usual BA rules. It works pretty well most of the time, but do check before you join the fast track lane if it's a single lane to avoid taking longer in fast track than in the normal lanes.
According to the airport, the following retail and food offerings are available in Terminal 3: World Duty Free, KFC, Lion & Antelope, Costa, WHSmith, Boots, The Nook, Kiosco and Pork & Pickle
Lounges:
The Escape Lounge in T3 is available for BA passengers. As with the previous arrangement at T3, we assume Escape will allow access along usual BA eligibility rules (class of travel and / or status), including 2 guests for GGL and Premier cardholders. The lounge is open from 04:00 and closes at 19:45 each day except Saturdays when it will close at 17:30.
Gates:
Flights typically depart from from Gate 142 or 143.
Boarding is generally prioritised by Groups.
Arrivals:
Flights land at Terminal 3. Travelex and WHSmith will be open in Terminal 3 Arrivals.
Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is at Terminal 3

I haven't flown from Manchester for a few years, until today.
- the T3 multi story car park was totally over capacity. Numerous cars were parked at the end of bays, where they shouldn’t be, but given the fullness, what option do they have? Quite a few of them had huge dents and scrapes down their sides where cars simply couldn’t fit down the space and had chosen to just push past.
- the Escape lounge was rammed. I gave up and walked straight out into the area where the BA lounge used to be. It was actually quite pleasant in that area.
decided that it’s “easier” to drive to LHR than to endure the hell of my local airport. What a shame.

You get denied boarding, as I did this morning. As a rule I don't carry my passport about if I don't need it, and sods law my drivers licence expired a couple of weeks ago (still waiting on replacement). Only other thing I had was my staff pass with a photo, that wasn't good enough either. Only help they could offer was to summon someone to escort me out of departures.
You'd have thought they would at least send notification to frequent flyers and nothing popped up when I booked my ticket and checked in. Thanks for nothing BA.

I anticipate you'll need to go to CEDR to get anything but I'd definitely have thought this worth pursuing.

Taxi to airport so no comment on parking
Security was less than 10 minutes (and no secondaries noted during my time there)
Escape lounge was virtually empty (less than 8 people in the BA section)
Guess its very random how Manchester airport can be

More baggage woes
Arrived on the BA 1406 Wednesday 27th, one bag turned up the other didn’t.
Form filled in, email to say bag would be on the same flight on 28th was due to be picked up by courier at 0900 on 29th and I assumed delivered that day
Nothing arrived so called BA baggage yesterday. Told delivery would be yesterday or this morning, but no sign
Called again just, told courier doesn’t work at the weekends!!

Arrived at MAN from LHR on BA1402, on Wednsday 13th September. One bag turned up, the other didn't.
On Saturday 16th, tracking the AirTag inside my bag, I found out that my bag was being held in a store in an industrial estate on the outskirts of Manchester city centre. It was still there on Monday 18th, and finally delivered that afternoon – just short of five days after my flight arrived at MAN.

Similar scenario for us back in December, took several days for our bags to be returned when they did not make the LHR-MAN flight. Fortunately our bags have only been lost a few times over the years, but in the past when they did get lost they invariably arrived either same day or following day. Assume BA have changed the way they manage lost luggage (to save costs?) which has introduced (significant) delays? What was particularly disappointing was that bags did not even fly to Manchester until the following day (if I recall some 5 fights later)...
We also had AirTags in our bags, they were kept at MAN for a few days and I had to take another flight in the period when they were at MAN and I could see where they were in the terminal! Whilst away I could see that they were moved to a depot just outside of Manchester before delivery.

By default, I generally carry my passport and driving licence whenever I fly.
A domestic Ryanair to Belfast just requires any old photo ID. library card, bus pass, student card etc.
Neither of my parents have a passport or driving licence, so would they be refused domestic travel by BA? Can they legally do this?
My mother has flown to Scotland with Eastern before with no ID.
You can walk straight out of departures at MAN T3 without an escort. Down the stairs from gate 143 / 142 and down the corridor, the same as when you arrive. Zero checks.
I gave up parking in the T3 mult-storey ages ago. Too expensive half the time especially for short stays and if actually available. Can use a work's car park now, or just park on the street in Hale or the good part of Altrincham and get a cab or Uber for Ł12-Ł15 e/w
Not as convenient, but if you're cheap or don't want to give MAG any more Ł than you need to.....
(To be honest though, just looked at a 7 day stay in Nov in the T3 multi-storey and Ł89. Ł134.50 for LHR T5 long stay.
Normally i would drive overnight to LHR and park in Hounslow West tube station for Ł6.50 a day / free at weekends, but that's stopped - saves a hotel for the night as well, especially if they were at a premium that night).
Shame the tram from Altrincham doesnt go directly to the airport (no direct train, although the odd bus does go there but takes at least an hour to do the 2-3 miles)
Don't know if you could get away with paying Ł5? for a shuttle bus from the Marriott or HIX on Thorley Lane?

Well, if you're airside anyway, then you must have gone through biometrics at the entrance to fast track / normal security / transfers. The scanner by gate 142 will just compare things by scanning a BP / your face.
Not sure if Ryanair are still doing international flights in the morning from gate 142?

We were inside T3 for almost 90 seconds this morning before the first airport employee shouted at us.
BA check-in was operating a queue (along the back wall) to join the queue (in the tensabarrier). As the 0720 (BA1385) and 0750 (BA1383) passengers mixed in the queue, a single employee at the desks feebly called for 0720 punters to come forward ASAP.
We were about the first 0750 pax to get checked in, and after fast track and the oft-reported 30 minutes for secondary at security, we were only sat outside Costa for 15 minutes before boarding. No time for lounge. Long queues for the Costa, queues for the toilets, filth and chaos.
Flight was delayed a few minutes for both "slot delay" and for removing the luggage of the poor unfortunates who had failed to make it through the checkin/security shambles in time.
Also a bizarre thing - at some point in the process of stacking our stuff into trays at the entrance to security, I managed to cut a small piece of the end of a finger away. Didn't feel it when it happened, but on entering the scanner discovered I was dripping and leaving a trail of blood. I can't exactly blame MAN for this as I have no idea how it happened, but it nevertheless feels like a very MAN sort of thing.

The infamous and random “stupid secondary” at the UKs worst airport can be averted by dumping everything that isn’t clothing into a separate and well spaced tray. EVERYTHING.
Yes, you’ll get shouted at. Yes, it’s a pain in the ĺrse but the stupid secondary can hold you up for a half hour, enough to miss your flight.

My hand luggage was flagged because there was something that looked like a weapon.
A weapon?! Impossible.
Yes, a star-shaped thingy.
I immediately realised what it was - a Christmas star from the Dior boutique!
Tried explaining, they wouldn't listen. I offered to take it out for them to inspect, they wouldn't allow me to touch my bag. (Apparently that's the protocol).
My bag was swabbed and it produced a positive result "don't worry, if you have moisturiser or hand sanitizer, this can leave traces in your bag, it happens all the time". I was made to wait as they called the POLICE.
All the while, the clock was ticking... I could see passengers on my CX flight to HKG starting to board.
THREE police persons arrived about 10 minutes later (strength in numbers, in case I'm a terrorist!) comprising of one burly man carrying a machine gun and two women with tasers... they rolled their eyes and exuded some incredulous chuckle as they watched me unwrap a nicely packed Dior handbag... and bring out a lovely Christmas ornament.

(Unlike MAN, there was no barking whatsover. The German personnel were all very understated.)
