BA at Manchester

MAN airport website for BA info (including security wait times): https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/...itish-airways/

Terminal and check-in desks:

All BA flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3.

Departure:

Fast Track security is available, subject to usual BA rules. It works pretty well most of the time, but do check before you join the fast track lane if it's a single lane to avoid taking longer in fast track than in the normal lanes.

According to the airport, the following retail and food offerings are available in Terminal 3: World Duty Free, KFC, Lion & Antelope, Costa, WHSmith, Boots, The Nook, Kiosco and Pork & Pickle

Lounges:

The Escape Lounge in T3 is available for BA passengers. As with the previous arrangement at T3, we assume Escape will allow access along usual BA eligibility rules (class of travel and / or status), including 2 guests for GGL and Premier cardholders. The lounge is open from 04:00 and closes at 19:45 each day except Saturdays when it will close at 17:30.

Gates:

Flights typically depart from from Gate 142 or 143.

Boarding is generally prioritised by Groups.

Arrivals:

Flights land at Terminal 3. Travelex and WHSmith will be open in Terminal 3 Arrivals.

Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is at Terminal 3

Reading my post back I can see it does have a “and then I woke up” quality to it but I can confirm all of the above actually happened!

First post, so must’ve had a bad experience!

arrived on Sunday night on BA 1402 at 1947, so at the carousel by 2000.

and waited, and waited….baggage services bloke went to see what was happening about 2025….crowd was getting restless and bags started to show at 2100, I had my final bag by 2117…yep 90 minutes after arrival waiting in a cold miserable terminal.

There was zero information as to the delay, no one about to ask, until some airport staff turned up but that was just to stop people going out and back in the no return doors.

i spoke to baggage services who told me delay was due to no staff, so where’s the issue lie here? BA, menzies(?), MAN or a bit of everything.

It's BA. They will blame Menzies - but it's BA who contract them.

10 minutes from Emirates Chauffer Drive drop off to lounge - as per usual. A couple of people in front of me in the security queue - but everything went smoothly (I took all electronics out).

Maybe they just target BA flyers?

Are BA using the check-in desks on level 5 or are they still flip-flopping between there and downstairs?

Really weird experience at MAN this morning

staff were using words such as “hello,” “please,” “welcome” and “thank you” Straight through fast track and my bag wasn’t pinged. All in all took 3 minutes.

Doesn’t make up for all the other times, but it is a start

How strange. Are you sure you were at MAN airport, and not John Lewis?

Any answers on this please?

I haven’t flown with BA out of MAN in a while (been doing ex-EUs), and when I do have HBO and been using VeriFLY and mobile boarding passes so skipping check-in.

Wife can’t walk fast or far so I don’t want to make her walk unnecessarily around the airport if possible.

They used to be down the slope to the right of security, but the last 2 times they’d moved to the checkin desks Left of security.

Anyone with the misfortune of having to fly out this hellhole in the coming days, be warned, it’s reached levels beyond disgrace. Yesterday and today the security queues in T1 are running around 3hrs+, and yes that’s not a typo. Hundreds upon hundreds of people are missing their flights and the airport don’t wanna know or help. They can’t even bring people to the front cos everyone is in the same boat.

a quick look on twitter will show some of the horrific photos/videos and conditions.

currently got a friend there now who has been in the queue since 10:15am (for a circa 1:30pm flight) who has barely moved and told me they’re already resigned to probably missing it, as the queue is all the way down the checkin area

Pre-covid I had actually taken the decision to avoid MAN completely because of the dreadful experience with clearing security... despite (then) living only 20 minutes from MAN... It was getting to the point where I was almost having to completely unpack everything from my bags to avoid the added delays of long secondary inspections/scans... and so were most of my fellow travelers... and that was creating long queues and an overall disharmonious experience...

I have no idea why MAN have mandated this, or what it is about the systems at MAN that mean they need to do this, but I have not experienced this level of, well, scrutiny, I guess, at any other airport that I have been through... At the end of the day, they need to do what they need to do... and MAN may very well argue their way is the right way... But as a TSA-PRE member, it comes as a bit of a shock to be having to unpack literally even the smallest items from a bag...

As I say, because of this (and this alone) I took to driving to Heathrow rather than transferring down... A shame, because the BA team at MAN were a lovely bunch of people who took the time to get to know the regulars...

ps - edited to add: I had (before bailing out) also experienced quite a lot of (what I perceived to be) generally discourteous and unhelpful attitude from staff at security at MAN for many years. Not everybody, no, of course not, and, no, I would not like to be doing their job...

I went through there on 1st Dec and as CheshirePete says, they are now (or were) on the drop off level towards the left side (viewed as you walk in).

I am shocked. It is normally such a well run airport

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...paign=sharebar

Delays are continuing at Manchester Airport as bosses admit the operation is under ‘severe pressure’ in the run up to Christmas.

Many passengers missed their flights on Friday night and Saturday morning as they battled long queues through security checkpoints.
It appears the problems have continued on Sunday.

Airport bosses say security queues are ‘longer than we would have hoped’ as a ‘significant increase‘ in passenger volumes has put the operation under ‘severe pressure’.

They said yesterday that staff absences and ‘a higher number of passengers than expected’ caused delays, but denied this was related to coronavirus.
