BA at Manchester

MAN airport website for BA info (including security wait times): https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/...itish-airways/

Terminal and check-in desks:

All BA flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3.

Departure:

Fast Track security is available, subject to usual BA rules. It works pretty well most of the time, but do check before you join the fast track lane if it's a single lane to avoid taking longer in fast track than in the normal lanes.

According to the airport, the following retail and food offerings are available in Terminal 3: World Duty Free, KFC, Lion & Antelope, Costa, WHSmith, Boots, The Nook, Kiosco and Pork & Pickle

Lounges:

The Escape Lounge in T3 is available for BA passengers. As with the previous arrangement at T3, we assume Escape will allow access along usual BA eligibility rules (class of travel and / or status), including 2 guests for GGL and Premier cardholders. The lounge is open from 04:00 and closes at 19:45 each day except Saturdays when it will close at 17:30.

Gates:

Flights typically depart from from Gate 142 or 143.

Boarding is generally prioritised by Groups.

Arrivals:

Flights land at Terminal 3. Travelex and WHSmith will be open in Terminal 3 Arrivals.

Flights tend to arrive at Gates 142 or 143, with an airbridge to the terminal. There is a flight of steps down to ground level once in the terminal.
Baggage collection is at Terminal 3

Just booked summer hols from LPL not MAN for these and all the usual MAN reasons.
(Under 60 quid to park *in walking distance from the terminal* for 11 days at LPL!)
I live in Manchester, albeit not a local - I find Liverpool a lot more "menacing" and Newcastle on a night out looks like its going to kick off a lot more.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying Manchester is good. Just others can be worse.

At the gate for the BA1385. The Captain along with the crew and a MAN airport staffer walked to the gate and as they approached I heard the Captain tell the staff member that MAN is the worst airport in BAs network.

Also, one person decided to queue on the wrong side ie against the wall instead of the window side and everyone follows resulting in the corridor being blocked.

His / her sentiments echo fleetwide. It's like the security agents get a bonus if they can aggrevate crew even more so than passengers.

But, if you're night-stopping, please DM for recommendations from a local for places to get dinner or breakfast/brunch if you're not "slam-clicking".

What interactions do night-stop crew have with ground agents?

Thanks for the offer... you'll find i'm already a "local" and know the city off the back of my hand. Just because the vast majority of MAN security agents are the worst in the world does not mean i am "slam-clicking" a city

Not sure of the relevance, but on arrival you would generally see the meet and greet agent or a dispatcher. On return you will again see the dispatcher and often boarding agents. BA have a good relationship with the handling agents here.

The issue here as with 99% of the above posts, is with the MAN security agents and that frustration sticks with you for the whole experience... As crew you also have to clear central search security to get the gate.

The Menzies team working BA at MAN have been doing a great job on my recent trips. While Gate 143 and some other aspects of MAN T3 aren't the best, they have been playing the hand they are dealt exceedingly well of late.

I've actually been stuck more than once with crew members working my flight while waiting for a bag to be hand-searched at security.

Always happy to meet a local too... .

The relevance is that it was unclear which ‘agents’ you were referring to.

The ground handling agents have been very effective at MAN and many of them are pleasant and approachable. That has not always been the case.

I still think MAN is getting some unfair attention, in recent months the security has been good, yes you get the occasional one that has an attitude but that is no different to other airports.

Ground team all good in MAN today on BA1399, Group boarding well done and delay made up from 30 minutes down 15 minutes.

Escape Lounge packed with large groups, very rowdy and un-lounge like.

Nice work by the cabin crew to feed 9 full rows of CE afternoon team in about 20 minutes!

I'm a Gold member from Manchester, I usually get fast track security and few issues historically, recently, twice my bag goes down the dreaded queue for baggage to be checked for a 30 min wait, only to be told the scanner "timed out", we need to put it though again, then it goes through fine, so no time in the lounge and un-needed stress about making the flight, I heard other passengers told similar "the scanner failed to take a picture". They need to get this sorted.

Agree, lots of smiles and chat with customers passing through security yesterday, they were definitely trying.

According the screen that you can see they were meeting their KPIs as well.

I have just come through security and agree staffing levels much better and staff pleasant enough, however, when busy the management of fast track is often shambolic (see earlier posts). The overall experience at Manchester in my view is poor and T3 looks/feels neglected, including the journey to T3 from the train station. Separate from the discussion, disappointing that the Gatwick flights have not been reinstated... Other than that it is a lovely morning in Manchester ☀️
