Watched this earlier today, somewhat interesting. It's amazing the things you can buy online these days.
Techmoan is very good Youtube channel for the nerd-inclined.

Vintage BA pre-recorded on-board announcements

I thought I’d share this short video I found on YouTube recently. It features a set of vintage pre-recorded announcements loaded on-board BA’s Boeing 757s back in the 1990s, several of which you will not have listened to before, and in real life would never wish to.

Techmoan posted the video already ages ago.

Don't you subscribe to high quality British entertainment on YouTube?

Kinda sounds like the guy narrating the video is the same guy on the tapes...

When did they do away with that boarding music? I've only ever heard Serenade for Strings... but then again my first flight with BA was in 2007 and my only BA B757 flight was the retirement one..

I miss some of that background music. I remember with some fondness settling into my seat and falling asleep to it prior to take off after a long day in London before heading back to Scotland.

Flying to New York a few years ago on a 747 (obviously) the CSD who was lovely and extremely classy came on the PA and said

” Ladies and Gentlemen we are now approaching New York John F Kennedy Airport, our port of entry into the United States”

Been a while since I've heard that music! Only ever recall hearing it on the 757 too.

Yes, it has been about ten years since I last heard it on-board. It also played on the Airbus A319, A320, 737, and 777

very interesting post for the videos, thanks!

i am most taken by the accent on the tapes...or how little there seems to be. the recording sounds almost robotic...i guess i would have expected it to be a bit more pronounced "in the old days"

It brought back memories of the below thread where BBB described the music as “the plinky plonky water torture music”, which I think sums it up. Played just at that volume where it enters your conscience but inoffensive enough not to disturb normal conversation...then you find yourself humming it 5 hours later!

The guy narrating the emergency announcements is very upbeat and calming! I found myself expecting a somewhat more authoritative voice.
