How will BA react to JetBlue getting LHR slots for S21?
A number of website are reporting that JetBlue has secured slots late in the day for LHR - US services starting 2nd August.
Unexpected: JetBlue Secures London Heathrow Slots - Simple Flying What will BA do in reaction to this? |
BA will do nothing. We are talking about maximum 2 frequencies a day - 1 x BOS, 1 x JFK. While B6 has great both hard and soft product, it is not a serious business proposition - no alliance, mediocre FF, limited frequencies...
|
Will probably attract lot of interest in the leisure market and offers connectivity from JFK but ultimately how many high revenue J fares are BA going to lose? Not many...

Maybe resume LGW-FLL ? It worked fine against norwegian last time.

The hard product looks underwhelming, with inward angled facing lay flat seating. Not for me.

B6 pricing, particularly in J (MINT) tends to be extremely competetive. While those who require the BA network won't fly B6, the leisure market may find it useful because it has great connections out of JFK and a partnership with AA as well.
I would not be so dismissive until you see the pricing. |

is linked from https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/jetblue-lhr-slots/ Go to page 1 and select ATM Allocations by Operator. Jet Blue has 14 ATM (air transport movements?) per week. |

Underwhelming? BA's has 8 across 2x4x2* v B6 2 across 1x1.
*on some flights. The only thing is that Mint does not get lounge access, will this apply at LHR do you think? |
I love B6, one of the only airlines that don't make you feel like cattle in Y - plus Mint is a great soft product on the rare occasions that I've splashed out. The partnership with AA is very interesting as well...plus T5 in JFK is by far the nicest terminal.

I personally love the look of JetBlue’s cabin and I am all for the narrowbody long-haul market....but the timings and frequency don’t match what is necessary for the LON-JFK market.
The current plan is for 1 or 2 flights a day from London to New York. If they go for LHR, that will reduce to 1 flight per day leaving LHR at 18:10. That just doesn’t work for many people and won’t worry BA, Virgin or any airline. |
B6 isn't in this to "worry" BA or any other carrier. It is in this to make money on the route.
It is a for-profit business. |
In another thread, someone has previously mentioned that 70-80% of the premium cabin passengers in BA's LHR-JFK route are corporate passengers where their companies have a corporate agreement with BA. This might not be true for the near future but when things return to pre-COVID levels, I doubt that B6 would be able to pull corporate contracts from BA just because they have a better product. BA/AA has more than 10 daily departures from London to New York, JetBlue would only have one.
