Airport Upgrades (AUP) promotion 2021/22 thread
Airport Upgrade Promotions 2020
This thread is a continuation of the 2020 thread on AUPs to be found here. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...20-thread.html Note that this different to POUGs, which are Proactive Upgrades offered in Manage My Booking on BA.com or the BA App, which are often available well before travel. If you have been offered or requested an airport upgrade promoted fare (AUP), please share the details here, and ideally update the wiki if you can. If you have less than 50 posts someone else will need to do it, but good citizenship is always good. If you are adding a new entry, feel free to delete any very old information. As a guideline anything over a year if there are many other data points, two years if there is only a few. This has been done for the new Wiki but for the record, post 2 has a copy of the Wiki as of 1 January 2020. Key points - AUPs are offered on BA metal only, plus wet leases such as via Titan or Eastern - AUPs are only offered on the day of travel, there is no point asking beforehand. - Basic (HBO) fares can have AUPs but the rate is usually higher than other tickets. - AUPs grant immediate access to lounges, Fast Track, higher Priority Boarding and additional baggage for the immediately upcoming set of flights, but not for the return leg as well. - They are subject to availability but don't be shy to ask, it's very little work for an agent to quote the fare (it's on the top of their screen) and not much more work to do the upgrade - AUPs are now widely available at check-in desks throughout the network - you just need FLY to be in operation - AUPs are not available at LCY departures (apparently due to the the lack of a lounge and Fast Track) - AUPs do give additional Tier Points and Avios, so long as the underlying ticket is a revenue ticket. That includes revenue tickets where Avios were use to part pay. - AUPs are available to all passengers and most fare types, the key exception are non public fares, such as bulk fare - Some check-in agents haven't been trained in how to do AUPs - there isn't a lot you can do about this at smaller locations - A few locations don't use FLY, or rather use a sub-set of it (e.g. DBV, EGC). - AUPs can be done in BA operated lounges and the First Wings at LHR T5 and JFK T7 - again subject to the agent having had the relevant training. |
For the record, this is what the Wiki was stating on 1 January 2021:
Shorthaul ABZ ACE
ACC
TLV

I have stripped out old entries from the WiKi where there are more recent ones available. If anyone would like to have another look at the WiKi and do some more housekeeping/check what I did then that would be great.

I pad £400 to upgrade LHR-ACC WTP-CW earlier this week. I only got WTP Tier points and avios, so I sent an email to BA asking them to add the missing points. They replied and said that airport upgrades doesn't give the tier points of the upgraded class. This is false, right?

What’s the deal if you’re on a codeshare? Say AA code on BA metal. Are they available and if so, do you get the additional TPs and Avios?

Not specifically, presumably for the double upgrade you sum the cost of WT-WTP and WTP-CW

Just some small data points for anybody looking to take advantage of airport upgrades as I had reason to be at Heathrow yesterday to meet some family in transit airside, so booked a cheap LHR-EDI-LHR b2b in ET, and then decided to see if CE was available for a mini-TP run.
1) I booked the flights on Saturday afternoon for Sunday travel and wasn't offered a POUG to upgrade as I was checking-in online 2) I checked at the First-Wing on Sunday and while they could process the LHR-EDI upgrade, they couldn't do the EDI-LHR leg and said I would have to do it when I got to EDI (for reference LHR-EDI was £49) 3) Arrived at EDI after a ground delay at LHR and went to the lounge to enquire about a AUP - it was available (despite it being a very full CE cabin), but the lounge currently don't have Credit Card machines so I had to exit through baggage claim, go to the check-in desk and have them process the AUP (for £59) and then go back through security. 4) There may be some things they can iron out over the next few weeks as the out-stations get back up to speed, but just for guidance for anybody looking at this option and annoying LHR couldn't do the whole upgrade at the original check-in! BA287 LHR-SFO: CW to F, LHR- £459 (08/2021)
|
BA476 LHR - BCN ET to CE £69 ( 08/2021)
|
BA2157 LGW to ANU (Antigua) 20/8/21 WT to WTP £199

This may be a stupid question but… if I am connecting on AA from LAX to DFW (AA) then BA from DFW to LHR - (staying landside) where in DFW would I ask for an AUP? Or does one have to go landside to check in to ask?

If this has been covered elsewhere, I apologize. I have an Alaska Miles award (EUG-SEA on Alaska, SEA to LHR & LHR to PRG mon BA) in CW. I have not been offered a POUG for the SEA to LHR flight (not unexpected) but was curious if anyone had been able to get a AUP from CW to F for an Alaska award? Also, does anyone know how early the BA check-in desk at SEA opens? I assume I will have to go landside to re-check-in with the COVID protocols and documentation needed as I doubt that the Eugene station will be able/know how to do it. Thanks!!

I am hoping to bag one of these to DUB on Saturday, hopefully the fare is reasonable!

I am flying on a BA issued avios ticket from LHR to YYZ in WTP. Can I ask at LHR for an AUP to CW with this kind of ticket?
Any recent experience with how much is the charge currently? |

Quick datapoint. Good friend is en route from LHR-SEA today. He was booked in WTP and inquired about an upgrade to CW at LHR lounge. Was offered, and accepted, at 499GBP. He inquired about this at his origination from Geneva, but they had no such powers there, it seems--had to be done in LHR. He did not see a POUG offer while doing the online check in, but that might not have come up since he has a leg operated by AS from SEA-PDX...

I wonder if the passenger got the new Club Suite on that flight or the old CW seat on that flight? |

First flight in over a year on Thursday as I travelled from LHR to EDI. This used to be a regular trip for me booked through my corporates travel provider. Rules are economy but I was always successful being able to upgrade at the time of check in at £69 for each leg. So I thought I would do the same on this occasion but there wasn't a sniff of an offer. I tried to search for something but really struggle with the new manage my booking view which I really dont like. However undeterred i went to the desk air side at T5 and it was no issue and only £49 which was great. I had no luck on way home at EDI though ground or airside even though the lounge advised there was availability and I could see spaces on board when I returned. I think this was more the staff were unaware how to do it. Has anyone else noted similar issues around lack of upgrade offers at time of check in or a tip where to find upgrade on MMB. Surely its better to take an extra £49 or £69 to aide the cashflow.

Does this hold true for partner EQMs? i.e. If earning Alaska miles, would the class recorded for EQM-earnings be reported as F (A?) if upgraded from J (I--in my case)?

Have a look at my post #17 on this exact routing and the issues I encountered. Pilot37 |

I have upgraded with Avios from WT+ into CW - in case I were to take the AUP to F, what TPs and avios would I receive? |
OH asked, was offered, and accepted CW to F for £469 GBP on BA 287 LHR - SFO. Was the later 787 flight and by all accounts the food and service were great. 4 people (total) in the cabin
