Hi there,

I have an Amex Companion voucher which expires end June 2022. Enough Avios for a first class return to USA. Re-planning a road trip (which was already booked once and cancelled because of COVID). Really keen to fly first class as never done it. Looking to fly out early May to Denver or Las Vegas and home before end June from anywhere in California. Would be happy to take internal flights to secure First class BA Reward flights. Dates can be flexible except 29th June 2022 is hard stop.

Questions -
I have spent ages looking for First Class Reward flights on Reward Flight Finder - is it a pipe dream given current availability?
Is it likely more may become available in coming months as more certainty arrives for airlines re planes on routes and staff?
Am I better off booking during the sale or after if I do it now?
As it is Multi City will I have to call to make the booking?
Is there any likelihood my Companion Voucher end date will be extended (originally June 2020, been extended 1 year)?
Should I just say sod it and book Club World to Denver and back from San Diego, as there is availability?

Many thanks for any thoughts or advice - I have spent several hours looking through multiple threads, and the knowledge on here is awesome as ever.

It looks like BA is fiddling with YQ again. Flying JFK-LHR using Avios used to be a decent value in Economy. It was 13,000 Avios + $64 off-peak. Now it is showing as 13,000 Avios + $200 or more, but only after going to book.

Fiddling with YQ really reduces confidence in the value of Avios.

Hello,
For starters, the Denver, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix flights have all just resumed or will next month (San Diego, Las Vegas still to be determined). All of theses cities are flying 3 class cabins so there is no First class seats available at all. Second, multi city bookings do need to be made with a phone call using Avios if I recall. There may be more informed folks on this thread that can have a better guess at whether or not Vouchers will be extended again, my feeling is probably not. Lastly, using Avios for First Class seats is nearly a joke. I have been looking for months as I had my upcoming Phoenix/LHR trip downgraded to CW. The only cities on the west coast that currently offer 4 class flights are LAX, SFO, SEA and there has not been a pair of Avios seats in First available anytime in the next 355 days for months. Occasionally you can find a single F seat using Avios but you can never match it up to make it round trip. The lack of 4 class airframes in the fleet since the retirement of the 744 and all of the 380's in storage, it makes looking for F seats using Avios almost impossible. I hope when the 380 comes back online maybe more seats in F using Avios will become a reality.

Is it next to impossible to find Club World availability from the States to London, looking at LAX to LHR in late July, had forgotten how bad BA's website was. On the flip side, with being based in the States now, my airline of choice is Delta, I can go into Delta's website(very user friendly) and find plenty of availability on Virgin Atlantic Upper Class, in fact I can get four seats, all on points. I just would like to fly BA, back over the pond this time.

Hello,

I have a question about UuA on a fare using the Chase Visa 10% off feature.

Am I right in thinking you cannot do a Avios upgrade on a fare that used the Chase 10% off discount?

Thanks for any replies

I will soon be travelling Mauritius-Gatwick/Heathrow-Newcastle, with both flights on the same ticket. I already UUA’d from W to J on the long haul, and Avios availability just appeared on the domestic sector.

Given it is a domestic add-on, will there be extra Avios and taxes to pay if I choose to upgrade the domestic sector?

Apologies if I've not seen this, but can you UUA a holiday booking when only the deposit has been paid?

Yes, Ive done this before. If booked in WT then its going to need to be an upgradeable fare bucket. Any differences to taxes and charges gets added to your balance.

Thanks EDIwanderer. We're in WT+ to DXB in Jan, hoping for availability into CW suites on the A350 for the overnight flight.

I can't seem to get Qatar flights to come up when searching for flights on Ba.com (to book with avios). Is this by phone only?

You should be able to book Qatar flights online using Avios. My gut instinct is there is no availability for the route/class you want which is the most probable reason.

Generally, you cannot change a return avios booking into a one way booking without cancelling the entire booking and hoping that the award inventory for your one way becomes available again (one reason for booking two one ways instead of a return). But these are strange times and you never know for sure unless you call.
