New Mandatory Covid Test for JFK Flights

Does anyone have any idea what's required here? PCR necessary or will the LAMP test at Collinson T5 do? BA's response to press queries said that this started today yet there doesn't appear to be anything publicly available. Not sure how it started today unless they refused boarding to all pax!

Very little has been announced, I assume this is due to the last 72 hrs of countries banning U.K passengers.

Sky news is running an article today on the subject and they quote that Virgin Atlantic will start requiring tests from Christmas Eve. VS have said more details will follow in the coming days.

I havenít seen anything official from BA.

Seems a little bit bizarre when flying to EWR remains an option

Yes I suspect it's only a matter of time, possibly later today, before all US flights are covered.

I was told LAMP and PCR are both acceptable, but there has been such a flood of news that I cannot find the source. Delta have said publically LAMP is ok:

Thanks yes I saw that statement by Delta. BA just confirmed to me that any test will do and it should be taken 72 hours before departure.

Don't they mean no earlier than 72 hours prior rather than later?

There hasnít been any lift in restrictions for tourists by Trump since March.

So does this mean that tourists can travel to JFK if they have a negative test regardless of the country wide ban still in place? Iím a little confused by this news.

Yes, it was presumably typed up in a rush. I think they also mean PCR not PRC, a rather unfortunate typo in the circs. Your certificate needs to be no more than 3 days old from the point of testing, in respect of departure time.

No, the Presidential proclamation remains in place.

The testing requirement applies to those still eligible to enter the US.

Iím not quite sure why testing at every port worldwide hasnít been introduced to date.

I would be happy to add a few quid to my ticket in order to fly. Understand it is not perfect but it is a lot better than nothing.

After all, at some point we will need to get the show back on the road.

Oh, Iím aware (Iím American and thinking about transiting EWR next month), it just seems a bit pointless as long as you can fly into EWR instead.

For all of Cuomoís bluster, it seems that any old piece of paper will do... ANY test is acceptable to NY authorities and will allow you to board. Yes, even the useless antigen ones and the Ďflowí things that are almost totally discredited by any vaguely sensible scientist. (Caveat - this is the situation now but is clearly ridiculous, so could change in future.)
