IST check in
Hi all,
IST - LHR
Assuming I do not have any check-in bags, can I enter through immigration much earlier? My flight is at 8am now and was thinking of going to the airport at 11pm the night before and head to the lounge. Is this possible? Will a mobile boarding pass work? (I’m not a UK passport holder if it matters, though I don’t require a visa to enter the UK)

Something to be mindful on flights to/from Turkey at the moment, only one of your personal belongings such as notebook bag, stroller, purse, camera etc. will be permitted inside the cabin. I hope this doesn’t throw a spanner into your plans.

When I flew in the summer, OLCI was inhibited both ways to ensure everybody had to visit check-in and check their cabin bag. I'm not sure if that's still the case.

That cabin baggage would be going on hold and you might not be permitted to pass through security without checking-in your larger carry-on.
Theoretically, you would be able to access the lounge overnight with a mobile boarding pass, however, due to the carry-on restrictions online check-in is currently not possible ( which means no mobile boarding pass ) for Turkey flights and you must stop by a counter. ( This was the latest report and it might have changed )
The BA counters at IST generally open 2h30mins - 3h before departure.
By the way, my advice for you that I made in the TK forum is still valid.

10 days ago I have been able to check-in online in IST and download/save my mobile boarding pass to my Apple wallet. I still had to pay a visit to the BA counter because of my luggage though.
All cabin approved wheelies need to be checked in. Duffels are welcome onboard.

Also, security and passport police at IST are turning away bags with larger carry-ons ( with wheels ). This might depend on the mood of the officers on duty and this is a Turkish Civil Aviation Directorate regulation rather than a BA one.

The no mobile boarding pass issue happened to some of the FlyerTalk'ers this summer but as 81romeo reported from a recent experience, it should be fixed.

then
during the summer when I was there I had one domestic flight with andojet out of SAW the gate in agent told me to check in my carry on(DUFFLE). then two other flights in IST one with BA (got mobile boarding and no issues with carry on(wheeled)) and one with LH (got boarding pass and no issues with carryon(wheeled)). but I guess its a major YMMV.

It's a YMMV as you mentioned but someone shouldn't rely on that he would 100% be able to get his wheeled carry-on onboard.

If the possibility that gate checking exists, then you could potentially salvage your plan. Can anyone confirm if this is happening at IST?
