BA have applied to operate LGW-MAN

Well Iíve just seen this on Twitter (SPD Travels) and I can honestly say Iím in shock. Itís earmarked to be 3x daily with a nightstop. First departure from MAN at 6:05 to allow easy connections.

I honestly believe this is just a slot sitting exercise to stop Wizz getting LGW slots. Why would BA need a LGW-MAN route now when short haul may not going back to LGW and the premium long haul routes (Barbados/Bermuda/Orlando) have moved to LHR?

When's it start and is the lounge open in MAN? Sounds like an amusing day trip

The reason for not running MANLGW was always that the limited slots and aircraft could be more profitably used elsewhere, not that there wasn’t any demand for it as a connection feeder. In this context it’s not massively surprising that it would return at a time when other routes will be thinly operated.

BA have also take a large sum of money from LGW to promote their routes from Crawley International, so I would be astonished if at least those routes didn’t make the trek back from Heathrow next year.

And yes, showing utilisation won’t hurt in the fight to block Wizz.

I wonder if we might see some other domestics pop up, which might even be a good thing - LGW-Cardiff maybe...?

There’s also the possibility that they help to feed flights for the Aer Lingus MAN-(USA) routes supposedly coming

As someone who lives an hour away from MAN and travels purely for leisure, this is very welcome news. I regularly used the MAN-LGW shuttles back in the day.

Historic route which I used many times. BA flew a 757 down (usually PES or PET for Caribbean connections and the 757 then went on to do an Athens and back before returning to MAN in the evening... must be back in around 1998 ? We had Bristol, NQY Aberdeen Inverness Leeds Bradford Plymouth Newcastle and Guernsey, many routes operated by BA cityflyer, Brymon Isle of Man, etc..
On top of Jersey Edinburgh and Glasgow which are the only routes left..

Let's hope BA also bring back NCL-LGW and the extra passengers can then justify keeping my favourite BA lounge open.
