All flights are showing to LHR on Airbus narrow body equipment. I'm not sure why they're using '6' digit numbers for some flights. Prior to previous seasons, they usually load up the schedule using some of the 21 shuttle numbers assigned to MAN before withdrawing numbers when they start to tidy up the schedule close to the time.

Slot sitting, and no doubt will disappear very quickly if waivers are extended or travel gets back to normal. Given the decent train service from Euston it’s a very niche market of connections or people in Kent/Sussex needing to get to Manchester (and vv). I recall it lost quite a lot of money before axed..and that was a more benign time.

For those quoting connections as important in these route decisions, the number of connections is part of the reason for this routes demise previously. The revenue for the route MAN - LGW - ANYWHERE goes mainly to the LH sector and very little goes to the SH sector. Point to point traffic is the revenue generator for SH, not connections. They will accept a loss where they are can steal direct traffic by undercutting a competitor and tempting people to connect via LHR, hence the long utilized ex EU fare dodge. This is not applicable to MAN - LGW, and so the direct competition is with the train and LCY and LHR. This seems very much a slot sitter and I doubt it will last long.

Historic route which I used many times. BA flew a 757 down (usually PES or PET for Caribbean connections and the 757 then went on to do an Athens and back before returning to MAN in the evening... must be back in around 1998 ? We had Bristol, NQY Aberdeen Inverness Leeds Bradford Plymouth Newcastle and Guernsey, many routes operated by BA cityflyer, Brymon Isle of Man, etc..
On top of Jersey Edinburgh and Glasgow which are the only routes left..

Is it a competition thing, or just to manage/supply the demand ?, GLA - LON is always popular.

The GLA - LON sector is an entirely different beast as the train or car is not a significant competitor to the business traffic. Unless you wish to overnight in LON the only option for the business traveller who needs to be in London for a meeting is to fly. GLA and EDI to London have far fewer connections and are profitable routes.

Why does GLA still have a LGW route ? Don't get me wrong, I was a regular user prior to lockdown, but would happily intermix between LHR, LGW and LCY dependant on price and timings. In many respects, I preferred LGW departures, nice lounge if in CE and got more upgrade offers from there..

Shorthaul revenue is measured both in absolute terms (for point to point customers) and in terms of ‘network contribution’ (for connections). The latter is a measure of how much of the longhaul network is a result of the shorter flight. Ultimately BA will use its limited assets where it can maximise total revenue - they very openly said that MANLGW was dropped not because it wasn’t used, but because they could make more overall money in another way. I agree with Waterhorse that it’ll be the same this time around, with the caveat that if the economics are different it could end differently - they’re not stupid. Key to the equation is ‘replaceability’, i.e. how much of the lost traffic could be replaced from elsewhere.

Well I’ve just seen this on Twitter (SPD Travels) and I can honestly say I’m in shock. It’s earmarked to be 3x daily with a nightstop. First departure from MAN at 6:05 to allow easy connections.
I honestly believe this is just a slot sitting exercise to stop Wizz getting LGW slots. Why would BA need a LGW-MAN route now when short haul may not going back to LGW and the premium long haul routes (Barbados/Bermuda/Orlando) have moved to LHR?
