Seat Assignment costs - did I miss the memo ?
 

As a lowly silver I usually get free seat assignment, but a recently ticketed changed Avios booking (that previously wouldn’t let me book seats at all until check in), is now permitting me to book seats, at normal fees, for available cabin seats.

Flight departs in May 2021 and I’m not trying to book exit rows or anything daft like that.

Advice and wisdom very welcome pls as I may have missed a change, or perhaps it’s a feature or enhancement during the ticket reissue process (?)

I've had a couple of issues with this recently as a Gold and assumed there had been a policy change, but it just seems to be a system issue. Come out of your booking, log out and start again, or my last one let me do it on the mobile app, but not my laptop. Good Luck

Yes, it sounds like the old glitch where if it's a new booking the Sapphire status isn't properly recognised. Try switching to the App or website, ensure your frequent flyer card is on the booking, and/or call up.

Thanks @Joshm300 ... think I’ve discovered what’s happening here .... on my previous reservation I had all personal details completed, seats assigned et al - obvs that’s not being flown now, but the new booking uses the same PNR but seems to not have all the personal details entered previously.

When I checked, our Exec club numbers weren’t there and, after I entered them, voila !

Seats now booked 👍

I have had this myself too. Between requesting a FTV, and making a new booking the exec number falls out. Perhaps part of the ticketing process is to add it back in, but until that happens if you look at the booking your exec number is not in and you can't choose seats for free. Easily fixed as you noted by just adding your exec number on MMB.

yes this. it took me a few times when i'd go into a revised booking to select seats and see fees for all before realizing to check my BAEC number is in there first as they seem to be removed on all my FTV bookings.
