Qatar Airways New Unbundled Business Class

Hi All,

I'm aware that the title might have thrown a few off, and apologies if this has been answered, but I couldn't see anything as yet.

As a BAEC member, I often fly Qatar in business to the Sth East and Australia (pre-pandemic) and earned tier points towards my BA account.

With these new unbundled fares, does anyone know how these will affect tier point earning capacity with BA?

As I understand it, all business class fares on QR earn the same amount of tier points - I hope this doesn't change things - but I wonder if anyone knows anything?

Thanks

For now, they are still R class, so still earn R class avios and TPs.

Already being discussed over on the QR forum here:
QR unbundles business class with new R fares

Appears to affect both 'R' and 'I' class fares.

Previously you could use any QR lounge except DOH on a revenue J one world flight. So potentially I could be on BA J from SIN and use the QR lounge there but not if I flew J on QR unless I pay top dollar??!! Seems a very strange policy!

Canít wait to see how those eternal BA paid seat selection whiners somehow suddenly become
at one with the prospect!

Hang on, so someone flying BA "I" also won't get lounge access at DOH? Or is this just for QR metal?

It's just Qatar Airways. It is for people who book QR tickets on QR. There are no indications this is going to have any impact on any of the other oneworld airlines.

Cool so.....

LHR -> DOH (BA any J)
DOH -> ??? (QR "R")
??? -> DOH (QR "R")
DOH -> LHR (BA any J)

should be 'safe' to assume AM access at DOH in both directions?

This itinerary would be safe to access the Al Mourjan Lounge.
Though, there is a huge likelihood that BA would not resume DOH in the near future.

I think the big thing at the moment, as is discussed on the QR forum is that we are still unsure of a few things, and knowing QR, anything could change in a second, particularly during this pandemic.

They say it with such conviction when they say they'll take their business elsewhere as a result of paid seat selection don't they! That airline CEO's are actually interested.

What are the chances of this coming to BA anytime soon (COVID excepted)?

Well technically BA already have such a thing with I and R Business class fares that require payment for seat selection for non-status passengers. The only difference is that we still get lounge access on those fares.

Depending on whether BA forked out for a lounge contract at whichever city you happen to be flying from.
