Have BA put up their prices?

The normal price for a BA business seat from LHR to TLV is about $1,500 return (if you don't book last minute). From 2nd October 2021 it looks like that has gone up to $3,600. Is this just what happens when seats are released and then the prices normalise? Has it happened on any other routes? Or have BA actually increased the prices by 140%??

This is probably the case. It's happened before where BA initially release the "fully flexible" / "expensive" fare buckets. Some time later they'll release the cheaper tickets.

Yes. This is normal. Usually until virgin not publishing its price BA will only sell the more expensive fare buckets. Wait a bit and the price should go down.

Prices vary throughout the time they are on sale and this is generally well managed by BA.

The initial fares do tend to be higher, if you think of the market of those that wish to book straight away, they tend to be date tied (for example attending a wedding or a particular event) and people do pay these prices to guarantee their flight.

Closer to the date, the target market becomes more flexible and the prices reflect that. I understand generally 6-8 weeks is a good time to buy a flight (if not during sales), although if there is an expo on or an event, they may wel have sold out by then.

Last minute fares tend to be business and price is less of a consideration- prices corresponding go up (and are actively managed rather than by computer algorithm)

Last year I was able to book Club Europe flights from BHD to BCN, for November 2020 one way,(to pick up a Cruise) for30,000 Avios and £2 for Mr S and myself.
Flight to Barcelona was cancelled last week and I have applied for a refund.
Pushed the Cruise forward to November next year and have started checking flights.
To book exactly the same for next year is 71, 500 and £2 for both of us.
That is a HUGE jump, I was wondering if it was due to BA dropping flights from BHD to LHR

The old band rates which applied are
BHD 7750 off peak one way in J, and peak 9000 peak one way in J.
BCN is 12750 off peak one way in J and 15000 peak one way in J.

The standard rates for BHD-LHR-BCN would therefore be 41000 off peak and 48000. You would also be charged £50 per person, so £100 in total.

Additional price points have been introduced since you last booked. If you click through on to the quote page you will see there are a number of pricing options, including one which matches what you paid in avios before at the standard rates.

off peak for 2
67000 Avios + £ 2.00
54500 Avios + £ 50.00
47000 Avios + £ 70.00
41000 Avios + £ 100.00
30000 Avios + £ 200.00
23500 Avios + £ 270.00
peak for 2
74000 Avios + £ 2.00
64000 Avios + £ 50.00
54000 Avios + £ 70.00
48000 Avios + £ 100.00
35000 Avios + £ 220.00
26000 Avios + £ 300.00
Tbh I have no idea how you could have paid 30000 + £2 last year for two people in J on BHD-LHR-BCN.

I promise I did , I couldn't believe my luck.
I started looking again last week once I cancelled my original fights , and Navylad is correct, flights for November are not available yet,
I was looking at Mid October to give me an idea of price and the 30,000 Avios and £2 was available for the middle of October on any of the dates that I looked at, but have all disappeared now.

The only thing I can suggest is you looked during the recent 50% off avios sale - but even that does not seen to get you to 30000 + £2 for two in J. Alternately you could have been looking at Y?

The band rates I quoted are the old band rates. Had I booked this maybe 3/4 years ago I would have expected to pay 41000 Avios + £ 100.00 for 2 off peak, or 48000 Avios + £ 100.00 peak. I really don't see any prince increase unfortunately.

Definitely J, Off Peak and had seats 2 A and C booked. Pretty sure the 50% Avios Sale had finished when I looked

This is what I came up with today:

71500 Avios + £ 2.00
61000 Avios + £ 50.00
51500 Avios + £ 70.00
45500 Avios + £ 100.00
33500 Avios + £ 210.00
25000 Avios + £ 290.00
Probably will book as soon as my dates are available and fingers crossed the price does not go up any more.

Thanks Karfa and Navylad

I suspect that pricing is BHD-LHR off peak and LHR-BCN peak, so (7750 + 15000) x 2 = 45500
