Booking to tier points without flying?

How unwilling is BA to convert a booking on my account directly to TPs? I've received a 'No' from both their customer services and on a previous question on the TP runs thread, but is it 'Not unless you ask really nicely' or 'Absolutely impossible!'? Secondly, why are they unwilling if you've already paid for your flights and aren't asking for a voucher, etc.?

It never happens - never. I'm not aware of the logic, other than to prevent people buying tickets and then not travelling.

No airlines do this. They are frequent flyer programmes, not pay for status.

If they permitted it, people would be able to buy status.

The rationale behind it has been discussed at length on this board: Status is something you earn, with "your butt in a seat", not by spending money.

Not everyone agrees but dem's da rules. I have never heard of anyone getting them.

If you didn't have to fly then virtual TP runs to achieve GGL could be very popular - all knocked out in a few days and you've got 2 years of 2xGold and 2xSilver cards, and then another year of 2xSilver with the soft landing.

Because just paying would be too easy, whereas actually flying as well involves a commitment of ones time in addition to money, which for many rich people is a greater sacrifice.
