Willie Walsh to join CarTrawler as Deputy Chairman

Willie Walsh must be running out of cash already as he is joining Dublin based CarTrawler as Deputy chairman.

Maybe they will end up with a deal with British Airways and AerLingus to provide car hire and airport transfers ?

Deputy Chairman, ie show up for half a dozen meetings a year and collect a few hundred thousand for that. No real work.

Is WW London based atm? Maybe an indication he plans to relocate back to Ireland.

Strange move as CarTrawler is a disreputable company. I had a run in with them a few years ago where they tried to deny any responsibility for supply of a rental car booked through their site. In my research I found that they used hundreds of paid reviews on the likes of Trust Pilot to bury bad reviews. As mentioned above on other websites you can get to see true reviews with details of complaints and they have an appalling score.

I thought CarTrawler was a tech platform rather than a retailer or agent? Or have I mixed them up with someone else?

CarTrawler is a world leading end-to-end travel technology solution providing your customers with access to more ground-based transport solutions in more cities than they will find anywhere else.

Sounds like a taxi firm

Crawler, like scraper, just has a very negative ring to it.

A cursory Google on my part seems to indicate they supply the technology to connect airlines / travel companies to car hire firms.

Pretty sure he’s lived in Ireland for ages now, commuting over for work (like AC did when at vueling).

If you look at google reviews, lots of the complaints come from people who have booked car hire as part of a package from Easyjet or Ryanair

So are they a retailer/agent or a tech platform? I'm confused.

I hope they don’t think of themselves as a tech platform! A third party built their website, which as tech company is not normal. If you’re a tech platform/startup you’d build you’re own tech and/or you maybe get help from a agency to design it. It’s a very poor design on mobile...

Some great buzz words but I don’t think tech is their strong point based on their website and compared to many other platforms.
