Gibraltar diversions today?
Hello allAsking for quick help. I'm due to fly BA492 to GIB in 2 hours. Lady at the bag drop said it's going to highly likely diversion to Malaga. I'm checking the weather in Gibraltar and don't see anything bad.
Can knowledgeable people here predict the possibility? I can't do 2 weeks isolation on return, so might have to abandon the flight. Thank you!!

If the aircraft lands at Malaga then you will be required to self isolate on return to the UK. This will be the case even if you do not get off the aircraft should other passengers board.

The weather forecast today
TAF: LXGB 290544Z 2906/2915 26015KT 9999 FEW015 TEMPO 2906/2915 23015G25KT 520002
so between 6-15 wind can be gusting to 25kt.
that could cause diversion

I am no pilot, but I understand that if the wind has any southerly component, then the rock causes turbulence either on approach or along the runway.
But the forecast wind seems to be directly west, but it's breezy....
This explains more and shows the airport charts.

Ah, so there is a southerly component with wind coming in from 230. Gusting to 25kts is going to be the issue

Also the time is in UTC. So 6-15 basically 8am to 17. Both today flight arrival is within this window.
I guess both flight will leave LHR with some extra fuel and the plan is to land GIB. Diversion decision will be made enroute.
so if entering Spain a big issue and travel is not important then stay at home.

it all will hinge on whether the flight then takes you on to Gibraltar, or whether they bus you over. Once you leave the plane in Malaga you have a problem.

This scenario was discussed in the UK 14 day self isolation thread on the coronavirus board. I seem to remember someone reportedly asked UKBF or similar on twitter and the advice was based on whether you did leave the plane.
The SI itself does include transits, so if you transit a non exempt country you do have to self isolate on return to the UK. There is no definition of transit, but perhaps one reasonable interpretation would be related to whether you are leaving the plane to board another flight, as opposed to landing, just refuelling, and then taking off again.
