OK, two cases in my family. I wonder what the assembled wisdom here can make of them.

Firstly, me. My case is rather simple (I think!). I am gold, my previous year ended 3/2020, and I am currently on 0 points. So my take is that instead of gold ending 3/2021, it will be extended until 3/2022. And, in order to retain gold for 2022-23, I would need to earn 1125 points in 2021-22. Is this a correct reading?

Secondly, my wife. Also gold. Her year ends 10/2020, and she is on 1080 points. That would have been good enough to retain gold had her year ended in, say, June. But, without any additional flights (and we're being very cautious at the moment as I fall into pretty much every at-risk category apart from housemaid's knee), would that be enough already to retain gold in 10/2020, thus making the extra 12 months until 10/2022, or does it fall between the cracks and she ends up with just gold until 10/2021.

Also, she's sitting with 240 points on BA and 560 on Qatar which have been cancelled. Are BA still re-crediting "lost" TPs from cancelled flights?

Thanks for any enlightenment.

BA really should have included examples in their FAQ to avoid all this confusion.
Agreed - it’s quite amazing how much speculation and confusion has been generated by one half-baked corporate communication!

Is this the extension or will she also qualify for a further 1 year extension next June? Also for GGL who are extended by 12 months despite not hitting the thresholds, I assume we will still get the partner cards and jokers next year.
that can't be this extension as a 8 June 2020 year end is not within the range. I would expect it to be extended based on the 8 June 2021 year end date, so a new card expiry of 31 july 2022.

not sure on partner cards.

That's the way I read it when receiving the email but since then there have been a number of people saying that it's more complicated than that, especially if you've already retained status for next year in the current collection year.

A quick question if I may, as I think there is some confusion floating around as to what people mean by their expiry.

Do you mean:

A) It currently says on your account/virtual card that your expiry is "30 Nov 2021"
B) It currently says on your account/virtual card that your expiry is "30 Nov 2020" but you quote Nov 2021 because you have already retained status in this (Oct19-Oct20) period

Thanks in advance

Your wife's membership (tier point collection) year has been updated to 8 June 2021 because she's now in the 2020-2021 membership year. Her card expiry (status benefits) will still be showing 31 July 2020. From 1 August 2020 the card expiry will change to 31 July 2021. She will qualify for a year's extension of Gold status for the 2021-2022 membership year.

This thread is turning out like that one on the Flying Blue status extension thread
I am at 0 tier points until today, had to cancel two trips (which would have net me close to the normal 1500 TP).

But I am very glad with the news and how EC is extending compared to FB which in my opinion so much more unfair compared to just extending every one. Yes I understand that FB has the rolling status points benefit, but compared to EC, so much more worst where loyal flyers are penalized (for those that disagree, let's agree to disagree).
For me, my dilemma is for my flights next year, do I put them in for AA EXP (which I dropped to Plat and let my BA status drop to Silver) or keep Gold with BA.

Cheers!

I re-qualified and am gold until June 2021 - does that mean I get extension until June 2022?

This is something that I haven't seen being addressed. My collection year ends in February. Do my TPs between now and 02/2021 count towards the 1125?

Sorry if this has been answered already (I did try and read the 37 pages) but I couldn't see the answer.

My wife's renewal month is March, she's Silver and has 40TP since March this year. We will likely do a couple of CE European city breaks in the autumn and we have a 1,000TP run for New Years Eve SOF to HNL. she will certainly be over 1,250 by March but not 1,500. So would she make gold in this collection year or is the lowered threshold purely for her next collection year March 2021 to March 2022?

no. collection years haven't changed. you don't now have two years worth of TPs counting together.

your status in your feb 2022 - feb 2023 year will depends on what you earn in feb 2021 - feb 2022.

Yes she would.

It has been confirmed that the lowered thresholds do apply to the current collection year.

This is not correct. CCR cards are included. I can't see where it states that the reduced Tier Point thresholds only apply to the current earning year either?

An unpleasant thought occurs.....

Re-reading the email it says (emphasis mine):
What’s more, it will be even easier to retain your Gold status next time you’re up for renewal, as we’ve decreased the amount of Tier Points needed by 25%.
So take the apparently unfortunate case of the "Already Qualified July". At the time of writing, the "next time" they will renew will be 08 July 2020. So does that mean the reduction applies only to the period 09 Jul 2019 - 08 Jul 2020?
