The way this reads, those January resets about to start their next year in Jan 22 - will need to the full 300/600/1500 tier points.
This precisely was the debate when the announcement was first made. My understanding is,
- someone with a June reset will need to earn the lower TPs from 8 June 2022 to 7 June 2023 (not lower TPs from 8 June 2022 to 31 Dec 2022 followed by higher TPs from 1 Jan 2023 to 7 June 2023)
- someone with a Jan reset will need the higher TPs from 8 Jan 2023

However, I don't think this is the end of it. Totally agree with the rest of the your response about BA needing an exit strategy. This does feel like another kick-the-can-down-the-road exercise.
I'm with you on this. I am a 8 Feb year end so was in the last round of extensions and my TP expiry date in BAEC already shows as 8 Feb 2023 with a Silver card valid until 31 Mar 2023. The way I read it is that the old TP thresholds apply ie I need 600TP in my year to 8 Feb 2023 in order to retain Silver for the year 9 Feb 2023 to 8 Feb 2024.

I'm a June Silver, and I'm so glad to see I will only need to get 450 TPs between June 8 and Dec 31 2022! Thanks BA.
That's what I initially thought too. But seems you have until 7 June 2023 to do that - based on their FAQ wordings.

My thinking too. My BA dashboard gives the lower thresholds only to Feb 2022. Which may be why BA hasn't sent me the email.

So has mine - will have to order a new card in a few months time. I do like having a physical card from BA.

Card expiry moved to May 23, but TP year still ends Apr 2022 🤔

Yes this is correct. Tier point collection years have never been extended - but there is no reason for you to worry about collecting TPs in your current year if you are happy just to maintain your current status.

With this new extension, it is certainly a great news and I will more than likely cancel our trip to Finland. With the highly contagious Omnicron variant, why take the unnecessary risk even though we are both fully vaccinated and boosted. We are just going to take the voucher for future use!

Thank you BA!

Ha - great minds think alike. Before the BAEC extension announcement yesterday, I had nearly the same trip held JFK-ORD-HEL-JFK-ORF in mid-Jan on BA codeshares / AY metal in order to satisfy the 4 BA flight requirement as well (wanted to make BAEC Gold still by 07April22)! I was hoping that everything would be ok still to take this mini holiday, but last week Finnish THL/Raja announced mandatory testing to enter even with full vaccination, and now has been raised up to level 4 on the US CDC classification charts. Now with the BAEC status extension and also the Omricon latest and worry that Finnish boarders would close again like last year, I have cancelled my BA codeshare HEL (and RVN) trip in hopes of a voucher for the deposit from BA Holidays. Hope to use that sometime May-Dec 2022 I suppose to obtain the 4 BA flights for next years qualification! Good luck to you and happy traveling (kaikkea hyvää tälle upealle matkalle)......

Course it is opinion and we have pages of discussion on it already in this thread. All that has changed today is the dates mentioned in an already existing FAQ,nothing else.
So, trying to make sense of this in my situation. I have a November 8 TP collection end date. Status gpes through Dec. 31, 2022. My usual approach is to take a flight after November 8 every other year and qualify for Silver for 2 years.

One interpretation (which I favour) is that, if I fly between Nov. 8 and Dec. 31, 2022, I need only 450 TP to retain Silyer through Dec. 31, 2024 since this counts for my 2023 TP collection year.

The other interpretation is that this is really considered part of my 2023 TP collection year, so back to 600.

From the disucssion, I take it that this is the point under debate and it is not clear which interpretaton holds?

Cheers.

Is there anywhere in writing it says the GGL tiers have a reduced threshold?
