Nice to fly on and bit of a pain to work on but better built than Airbus in my opinion.

This is one of the youtube promo videos. Complete with Orson Welles soundalike.

haha one random comment and unexpectedly tied up with work rest of afternoon to return to quite the opinions! :P

amused to see the responses, frankly! but i just find the proportions of the whole rear section just disproportionately bulky and awkward! (and in fairness fine the DC-10 equally abhorrent).

What about the Comet? A fine looking aeroplane with beautifully inserted engines in the wings.

Indeed. With all the stuff going on around us, this has been a real pleasure to read, along with the other 747-200 post.

I was at the end of the runway when the first ex BA Tristar landed at Teversham for its tanker conversion by Marshall’s! Only managed to fly on one, LHR-ATH. The return being a 757.

Similar to the Concorde model posted a couple weeks ago, here is a video of a working model of the L1011.

There is also a band with the name El Ten Eleven that has some interesting music.

Sweet, but less convenient for engine maintenance.

Nice colour scheme too [from my wife's time on 216]. Everything was B&W back then!

Shouldn't it be Cottage Crescent? I seem to recall they were aligned in a curve. Wrong airline, but.....

haha!

honestly this all DID start with the comet! i came across an article about kai tak which led me to an article about the comet (which is one of the coolest planes ever) and to an article about the BOAC flight 911 crash to the DC-10 to the tristar!

we all know how wikipedia works that way

i am 40, so do not really have many memories of flying before 1988 and while i'm sure i've been on some of these planes way back when, it is always nice to stroll down memory lane and see how quickly fleets modernized. i mean we have seen pics or the tarmac of spots like JFK or BOS from even the mid-2000's and see a lot of what we'd consider dinosaurs today!

That turned out not to be such a great aircraft...

No way. I always loved the TriStar.

I did a lot of short runs between TPA and ATL in these beautiful tanks.

How could you think that’s ugly?

Oh I dunno, the DC-8 was pretty, so was the Constellation. But those were probably before your time.
