I'm curious. What was the Dhahran Suite? Also does anyone know whether BA had both Dhahran and Bahrain on their schedules at the same time?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it was the BA125.

The Dhahran Suite was the nickname for the small back cabin of 4 rows aft of the rear galley, this was the smoking cabin and tended to have the more heavy drinkers.
The Bahrain flights were separate and were all transit flights with the B747 going onto Australia and the Tristar going on to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur or Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

Many thanks, I have an idol mind at the moment... so interesting to hear. Sounds a popular place to be on the way back from Saudi. Can understand why it was only ever a nickname.

Lovely looking aircraft, much better looking than the DC10.

Tristar never took me to nice places, just war zones!

This thread title is borderline blasphemous. My father used to fly this bird, though it was before my time.

This reminds of the MD-11, I had the opportunity to fly with AA on one.

What were the key differences between;
  • DC10
  • Tristar
  • MD11

Did BA only have the Tristar?

I discovered last week I'd flown on a Tristar at least once, on a substitution for a Virgin flight from JFK which went tech. Absolutely cavernous interior, that was my main impression of it.

There are some very good youtube videos relating to the design and manufacture of the L1011 made as contemporary publicity pieces. Well worth a look. It was very technologically advanced indeed.
